Tae is on track to meet FVPS literacy standards for Reception students. She
can recall several events from texts and is learning about different text
types and the features that these texts share. She can read short,
predictable texts with familiar vocabulary and imagery by drawing on her
concepts of print knowledge and sounds knowledge. She knows all the
sounds we have covered and can use her skills to write simple sentences
with assistance. She is experimenting with capital letters, consistently sized
letters and full stops. She is also working her directionality and spacing.

Tae can describe the features of familiar places and suggest ways to care
for them. She is beginning to recognise why some places are special to
people. She is developing her understanding that places can be
represented on maps and a globe.
We will be covering History in Terms 3 and 4.

Teacher Comments
Tae has made a great start to the year, which is evident in her receipt of our classs Focus on Learning award in Term one. She is
also on track to reach the Reception standards at FVPS. She knows over 30 of the 44 sounds, recognises more than 50 of the
expected 100 sight words, has almost completed the 24 concept of print skills and knows 7 of the 9 phonological awareness skills
which includes recognising syllables, rhyming words, producing rhyming words, hearing initial and final sounds, blending sounds
and segmenting words. Mastering these skills has allowed Tae to develop her reading and writing skills which she is beginning to
use more regularly. Her handwriting is improving although she is still having some trouble forming some letters correctly and
therefore resorts to using capital letters in their place.
Tae is eager to learn and starts tasks quickly. She uses her time efficiently however would benefit from slowing down and taking
more care to present her work neatly. This includes thinking about her directionality and use of the space on the page. She follows
classroom and school routines well and regularly contributes to classroom discussions. Her good focus and willingness to learn is
evident as she often recalls previous learning or makes connections across lessons.
Having said this, Taes focus has decreased somewhat recently as a result of new friendships formed. Although developing strong
friendships is important in social skills and character development, it has meant she has struggled to focus as well as she has
previously shown she can. In order to increase her focus Tae would benefit from thinking carefully about who she sits with.
Taes good progress can be credited to her commitment to completing her nightly homework and to the support from her family in
completing this. She can only continue to improve if she maintains this habit as the year progresses.
Over the coming terms, I would like to see Tae take more pride in her work and slow down so she is able to present neater work. I
would also like Tae to focus on waiting for each step rather than guessing what is expected next. This will allow her to better grasp
the intended learning outcomes. Well done Tae on your great start to the year. Keep it up!
Leadership Comments
Tae has clearly made progress in her learning and has shown us that if she continues to stay focussed, learn to make decisions to
benefit her learning and complete her homework regularly further gains will be made and she will reach the expected targets by
the end of the year. You have had a great start to your schooling Tae, lets see you continue to work hard!
