Course Description:

This college-level course is designed to enhance writing, research,


and speaking skills and to provide academic writing and reasoning
skills to foster lifelong learning.

1. Access, retrieve, and evaluate data from academic secondary sources needed for effective

Measurable Performance Objectives:
1. Access, retrieve, and evaluate data from academic secondary sources needed for effective
research writing.
1.1 Identify and use the librarys computerized systems.
1.2 Locate, select, and evaluate reputable sources of information.
1.3 Demonstrate ability to read technical content critically.

2. Compose and revise documents for diverse audiences and purposes.


2.1 Apply an organization strategy throughout the writing process.
2.2 Develop and support an original thesis.
2.3 Use source materials as a basis for refutation.
2.4 Summarize, paraphrase, and quote sources as appropriate for the writing task.
2.5 Employ American Psychological Association (APA) documentation in written, visual,
and spoken communication.
3. Use strategies necessary to deliver effective oral presentation(s) for diverse audiences.
3.1 Adapt content from a research-based document into presentation(s).
3.2 Demonstrate appropriate vocal skills, including pronunciation, rate, and tone.
3.3 Demonstrate appropriate non-verbal skills, including eye contact, posture, and enthusiasm.
3.4 Integrate relevant visual material into presentation(s).
Evaluation Criteria/Policies:
Students will demonstrate proficiency on all Core Course Performance Objectives at least to the
75 percent level to successfully complete the course. The grade will be determined using the
College Grading System:
