ADVANCED FAST LANDING CRAFT UTILITY AFLCU
GENERAL
Nowadays Amphibious operations are subject to doctrine shifts
towards Ship To Objective Manoeuvre (STOM) and Over The
Horizon (OTH) operations. The distance between the ship and
landing area increases. This requires a new approach in designing
Landing Craft, based on the latest developments, requirements and
criteria. The current design results are Advanced Fast Landing Craft
featuring high speeds, better seakeeping and personnel comfort.
The Advanced Fast Landing Craft is designed to complement our
ENFORCER Landing Platform Docks with a state of the art
ship-to-shore connector. The Advanced Fast Landing Craft
Mechanized is suitable for Amphibious Operations to land
personnel and medium weight equipment.
TECHNOLOGY
DAMEN initiated an Advanced Fast Landing Craft development
program to deliver this capability to her customers. The technology used is that of air support, developed and patented by Effect
Ships International A.S. This resistance reducing technology was
improved from Surface Effect Ships technology with rubber skirts
to a system with a robust and simple fixed bottom cavity to
capture the supporting air volume.
DEVELOPMENT STATUS
The Advanced Fast Landing Craft is under development. Interested
parties are invited to contact DAMEN for more details and give
feedback on the conceptual functional- and performance data.
