Claude Monet
Claude Oscar Monet was born on November 14th, 1840 in Paris, France.
He was the second born son in his family to his two parents, Claude and
Louise-Justine. His parents wanted him to take over the family grocery store
business. Monet had something else in mind. He moved in his widowed
aunts house after his mom died and starting going to art school.
This was the start of him becoming an artist. He had taken many art
lessons from previous art instructors, attended to the school of art, etc. They
taught him how to paint, draw and the simple guidelines to art. Not long
after he found some art friends and started traveling around Paris. Together
they went outside the art guidelines and starting painting the outdoors.
This is where his own personality started to show. His personality
separated from the own painters and made his own unique style. He went
outside the art guidelines to discover the light and the colors within his
paintings. Most of the paintings he created are expressed throughout
landscape and nature. He liked to be a perfectionist. Monets artist
temperament probably started around when his mother died when he was 17
years old. I think these are some of the events that added on to it and one of
them is that he had served in the war which helped him get an idea of what

he wanted to paint. Later on after the war when he was married to his first
wife, he tried to attempt suicide by drowning himself in the river. When he
got married to his second wife and had a family of their own, he witnessed
his second wife and his daughter die. Monet then died from lung cancer on
December 5th, 1926.
I feel the most significant piece Claude Monet produced is called
Impression, Sunrise. I feel that it was what made him recognizable and it is
one of the famous painting he has created. It is what started the
Impressionist movement. In this picture you can see how the light bounces of
the ocean. He really portrays the colors and light really well. He does
amazing with his pieces of work that include landscapes in them. That is his
best work.
The emotions I feel that this painting portrays is being calm and
impressed with the way how he portrays the bay and the port. He makes
their landscape look really beautiful. It brings me to peace and take a step
back to realize how beautiful mother nature can be if we look closely. We can
find a deeper meaning into these kind of pictures. I feel that it is one of a
kind.
His artist focal point mainly the colors, as I have talked about above.
He wanted to show how the light and colors look different during each part of
the day. He wanted to show how the light reflects off the water. How the sun
affects how we see things. He thought that was an important part of the
painting. He was the first one to start painting the outdoors while others

where painting models or painting in studios. The artists style was

impressionism. He is known as one of the famous post-impressionist
painters. He was showing the visual aspect of nature. He wanted to prove to
other artists that colors and light shift during different times.
For me, a landscape does not exist in its own right, since its
appearance changes at every moment; but the surrounding atmosphere
brings it to life - the light and the air which vary continually. For me, it is only
the surrounding atmosphere which gives subjects their true value (Monet,
Claude).
