ABSTRACT
Background : Benign Prostate Hyperplasia or BPH is an enlargement of the prostate
gland caused by nodular hyperplasia of the prostate gland and stroma. The incidence
of this disease increases with increasing age is: 40% at age 40 years, 50% at age 60
70 years and at the age of > 70 years increased to 90%.
Objectives : To know the relationship of age to the type of histopathology in patients
with BPH in hospital Dr. H. Abdul Moeloek Bandar Lampung in 2014.
Methods : This study used analytic methods of non experimental design using a
restrospective study of medical records Hospital Pathology Laboratory Dr. H. Abdul
Moeloek Bandar Lampung in 2014. The sample were all BPH patients who met the
inclusion criteria for the formula Slovin, totaling 43 samples.
Results : Chi Square Test Results in 43 patients with BPH showed that age < 66
years there is a dominance of stromal cells wheares in patient > 65 years there is a
dominance of glandular cells with a p-value of 0.001.
Conclusion : This research result that there is a relationship between age and the
type of histopathology in patients with Benign Prostate Hyperplasia.
