Project 3 Genre 1 Rationale
In Project three my genre one is a mobile hanger model used to teach an audience of
upper elementary education students about the importance of the Student Government
Association. My topic description is a minor form of Government found in most schools that
allows student leaders to serve their student body. I chose this simple mobile genre to engage the
eyes of a younger audience, as well as keep them involved during the brief class demonstration. I
also chose specific conventions to directly address the younger audience. For example a
rhetorical appeal includes the use of primary colors on each index card, as well as color coded
titles that match each color coded branch. Each branch differentiates by a primary color as
follows; Legislative branch is red, Executive is blue, and the Judicial branch is yellow and all
subheadings that relate to these topics follow the same color pattern. Primary colors are easily
distinguishable by elementary school students, considering they are the first and most important
colors taught around that age. My color scheme attributes categorization and association to each
branch of information and will help elementary school students learn effectively. Another
rhetorical appeal addressed in my hanger model is the use of Rockwell Extra Bold font. I used
a larger, bolder, and informal text to appeal to kids and made it look less of a boring assignment.
Younger kids tend to mimic the teaching styles presented, so I chose to use fun, simple and
engaging visual context in hopes to receive a positive reaction from the students. Also another

rhetorical technique exemplifying the learning tools needed to teach elementary students, was the
simple diction and syntax, its purpose is to serve a shorter attention span and smaller vocabulary.
An audience of a younger age needs less text and more color to keep focus. For example each
index card has no more than three lines of text, because to a point kids will stop reading and
wont retain the information. The purpose of my hanger layout was to show a direct flow of
information, its a simple way for the kids to learn from top to bottom. Theres no confusing and
complex web, its composed of three main branches which are the titles followed by three
positions held under those branches in order of importance. I chose to include a more elaborative
content of detailed explanations of each subheading position in the hanger. As well as choosing
to exclude the individual branch definitions, because that piece of information is already in my
genre two handout. Genre one hanger displays the powers in each branch, while genre two the
handout visually represents how each branch works together. Doing so I spread out the
information purposefully so that no context is being repeated and both genres are used in parallel
to assist in teaching the topic of Student Government Association.
All in all, in genre one the mobile hanger model, every element of design, text, and layout
has a rhetorically appealing purpose to that of my elementary education audience. The primary
colors provide categorization and fluent association between each branches, the bolded kid
friendly text and font keeps the theme lively and less formal. Even down to the general mobile
layout of the design was created to be engaging, 3D and mobile but still visible (hints why the
text is so large) and simple enough for elementary school students to effectively learn about the
importance of minor government found in their schools called the Student Government
Association, and maybe one day they too can make a difference in their schools.
