newcivilizations..TheywillbeabletoexplainhowtheworldsfirstcivilizationdevelopedinSouthwestAsia,intheriver
valleyinanareaknownastheFertileCrescent.
IMPLEMENTATION

StudentswillbestudyingtheCodeofHammurabi,wheretheywilldiscusswiththeirpeersandencouragehigherlevels
ofcriticalthinkingthroughquestioningtechniquesusingCosta'sLevel'sofQuestioningtodeterminetheoutcomeofthe
courtcasetheirgroupisassigned.
Procedure
Studentswillbedividedintogroupsoffour(atrandomorteacherchoosing)andassignedacourtcase.
Eachgroupwillbegiven20minutestodebatetheircourtcaseanddecideonaruling.
Eachgroupwillpresenttheircaseandrulingtotheclass(about5minutespergroup).
Aseachcaseispresentedstudentswillcompletetheirbulletednotes,whichwillhelpshowpatternsinsocialclassesand
severityofpunishment.
HomeworkwillbetocompletetheirCornellNotesforsection2.2
