Dance performance analysis

Noche Flemenca
Noche Flemenca is a company under the direction of Solange Gomes. They
are based out of New York City and travel the country. They are a non for
profit Dance Company. Their main goal in their dance is to educate about the
art of the flamenco dance.
Banderilleros was a dance performed by several dancers to intimidate
a bull fight. It was a very rhythmic dance. The spacing of this dance was very
interesting, the dancers moved all over the stage. They used many different
shapes in this performance. They used things such as capes, their costumes
and hand cymbals to add rhythm to the performance. They used their arms
and hands a lot, creating shapes and bringing a flow to the performance
through the other props that they used. The dancers also used their feet to
create a rhythm in the dance. They stomped their feet a lot. This added more
aspects to the dance.
I think that this dance was meant to create a scene. It was meant to
take you to a different place and help you to experience the culture that this
dance has originated from. The aspects of this dance take you to a bull fight
in Spain. It creates a tension between the dancer that is meant to represent

the bullfighter and the dancer that is meant to represent the bull. This dance
creates a feeling of suspense and also excitement. It has a lot of intense
energy and brings a lot of excitement to the stage. It really brings a different
feeling to the stage, it not only represents the art of dance but it also brings
a feeling of culture with it. It represents who the dancers are and the culture
that they represent and stand for. It really takes you to a different time and
place. It helps you feel as if you have traveled and captures your attention
and emotion. It captivated the audience and made you feel as though you
are not only experiencing the performance of the dance but also
experiencing the scene that the dance has created. This piece used aspects
such as rhythm, space, and time and has executed them along with other
elements including the costumes and props included in the dance, and has
used these things to create a very vivid story and bring out the imagination
in the audience as well as catch their attention completely.
Cordobez was the opening piece of the concert. This piece started out
with only drums for the music. As well as the drums the dancers stood in
place and used their feet as drums as well to stomp out the rhythm. Shortly
after this, an acoustic guitar was added to the number. This piece also
included other props including scarves that were originally a part of the
costume but soon became a prop. The dance seemed very choppy and
rhythmic at first, however, when the scarves were added as a prop it created
a flow within the dance. The dancers used the scarves to create a flow that
seemed to flow from once dancer to another. The dancers created many

shapes mostly using their arms. As they created these shapes, the scarf
seemed to become an extension of the dancer and created a new shape that
added to the shape of the dancers body. As they created shapes and
movement with their arms and upper body, the dancers legs seemed to be
mostly to create rhythm. At first the legs, though in motion, stomping on the
ground, seemed to stay mostly in one place. However as the dance
continued the dancers used the space of the stage and moved about the
stage. They used many aspects of space in this dance. They created lines,
again using the scarves to draw attention to different parts of the dance and
of the dancer.
This dance was a very interesting piece to start out the concert with. I
think it grabbed the audiences attention quickly and drew them into the
performance. This dance was very fast paced and had many aspects. I think
the fact that they started the piece without music and only used drums and
their feet brought a lot of positive energy to the stage. They rhythm of the
dance was very upbeat and it was very captivating. This piece seemed to be
a good piece to start out the performance with as it captured the attention
and set a mood and created energy to pull the audience in.
This performance was a different kind of dance and brought its own
unique elements and culture to the stage. It was not a style of dance that is
very common or popular in this country so it brought its own feel and energy
to the stage which helped to create a unique experience all around. This

performance was captivating and it created a scene and feeling that was
unusual and creative and also very entertaining.
