DESCRIPTION 2 ISLAMIC BANKING

Objectives:
1. Identify and compare the Business and Working concepts of Islamic Banking and Conventional
Banking systems.
2. Comparative analysis of Islamic Banking vs Conventional Banking
a. Ideology
b. FSA (NPA, Profit & Loss, ratio analysis, Legal Aspects)
3. Study the Performance of IB and CB during the financial crisis.
4. Analysis of Indias situation during Financial Crisis implementing IB rather than CB.
5. Potential and Scope for IB in India.
6. Hurdles faced by IB in terms of Political, Cultural, Legal aspects.
7. Time series study of evolution and expansion of IB in Indian Market.
8. Emphasize the additional banking risks faced by IB
9. Identifying whether customer base in India is religion centric or not.

Research Methodology
Islamic banking has been an emerging concept in todays world and in order to know more about
it we would refer to journals, literatures and existing research papers. This would enable us to
know the concepts, principles and the methodology in which Islamic banking works. This would
eventually help us achieve our 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 7th & 8th objectives. We would resort to
PROWESS and RBI databases to collect financial statements of Indian financial institutions.
Chapter 3 of the textbook would be studied to make the financial statement analysis
(2weeks).Chapter 6 would be used to study the legal aspects of banks and thus satisfy the 5 th
objective.
To make an in-depth analysis of Islamic banking we would adopt primary research in the form
of interviews with Islamic bank in Hyderabad for the 6th and 9th objectives. (4 weeks)
SPSS and excel would be used to do the analysis of the data to get the 2nd, 4th, 7th, 9th objectives.
Report completion (1 week)
Total estimated time would be 8 weeks.
