I am committed to promoting a safe and responsive environment for each
of my students. I will develop a classroom mission statement and the classroom rules with my students. Through the development of these items, students will become keenly aware of the behaviors and actions that are expected of them in order to uphold this type of environment. I will recognize and respect the unique qualities of every student and advocate self-awareness. To guarantee this, I will practice and promote neutrality in my classroom. Making sure each student becomes familiar with the things that make their classmates and themselves special for who they are. I will ensure that students individual needs are addressed so that they can achieve their full potential. To accomplish this objective I will be flexible in making adjustments to accommodate diverse learner needs. I will also ensure that students with disadvantages have access to the services they require. I will implement activities and lessons that students can relate to, keeping them engaged and eager to learn. This ongoing objective will be executed by uncovering the things that my students are interested in and the things they are ready to utilize. Additionally, I will make each lesson culturally relevant to my students so that they can easily make connections to their world. I will instill self-confidence in my students and encourage their individual talents and strengths so that they independently seek success. In my classroom I will employ teaching techniques that assist students in developing poise and independence. By praising and paying recognition to their talents and strengths students will become aware of them and exploit their skills to advance in all academic areas.
With the families of my students, I will effectively communicate, cooperate,
and collaborate to develop a program that is conducive to their development. To do this I will develop and maintain an atmosphere of constant open communication with guardians. Together we will collaborate to develop plans that will be most suitable for their child. I will maintain respectful relationships with my colleagues and work cooperatively with them to ensure my students are provided with a highquality education program. By establishing trust, confidentiality, and collaboration with co-workers, I will work with them to develop and share resources and ideas to ensure the best possible education is provided to students. Furthermore, I will pay recognition and value my co-workers needs and achievements to secure their best efforts being put forth that will help to optimize students success. I will serve as a voice for my students and promote programs, services, polices, and laws that compliment the well-being of my students and their families. Through self-conduct of honesty and integrity I will attach importance to my responsibilities to provide childcare programs that cater to students best interests. Moreover, I will use my voice to ensure that agencies and interdisciplinary programs address issues regarding the safety, health, and education of my students and their families. As a teacher, I am committed to maintaining the overall welfare and success of my students as my primary mission. Ms. Chiappone
The structure of my personal oath as a teacher is made up of the
things I find most important and value as my professional responsibilities to children, families, colleagues, and the society. The ideals and principles I articulated in my oath are intended to express ways, in which I intend to follow, in order to resolve ethical situations. Many of my ideals and principles have transpired from those in the NAECY Code of Ethical Conduct. The Code of Ethical Conduct lays out standards for educators which include their ethical commitment to children, relevancy to decision-making, teaching, relationships with families, establishing goals, and the administration of programs. The code also provides suggestions for education professionals to follow for practice, planning, and advocating ethical issues that may arise in an educational environment. Furthermore, the Code of Ethical Conduct expresses the importance of educators to employ the ethical behavior and practices it establishes. My personal oath begins with the statement As a teacher, I am committed to promoting a safe and responsive environment for each of my students. I derived this statement from Section I of the Code of Ethics where it describes educators ethical responsibilities to children. In this section it states Our paramount responsibility is to provide care and education in settings that are safe, healthy, nurturing, and responsive for each child (NAECY, 2). This statement read loudly to me and it rested closely with my own personal values as an education professional. Ensuring students safety and well-being in a classroom is a priority. Therefore, I will
create and maintain this type of environment in my classroom through
classroom management methods and teaching techniques that foster students social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development and that reverence their dignity and efforts. Another statement I made in my personal oath was With families of my students, I will effectively communicate, cooperate, and collaborate to develop a program that is conducive to their development. Section II of the NAECY Ethical Code of Conduct establishes ethical responsibilities to families. The code states Because the family and the early childhood practitioner have a common interest in the childs well-being, we acknowledge a primary responsibility to bring about communication, cooperation, and collaboration between the home and early childhood program in ways that enhance the childs development (NAECY, 3). I felt that it was essential to incorporate this ethical practice into my personal oath because families work as the backbone to every child and to every teacher. Families are the primary importance to their childs development, and thus, need to be involved in planning and implementing practices that support their childs education and development. I feel that it is imperative to develop a partnership with families and maintain an open line of communication which facilitates necessary contributions for the childs success. I will maintain respectful relationships with my colleagues and work cooperatively with them to ensure my students are provided with a high-
quality education programI developed this statement after examining
Section III of the Code of Ethics which discusses ethical responsibilities to colleagues. In the Code of Ethics it is written Based upon our core values, our primary responsibility to colleagues is to establish and maintain settings and relationships that support productive work and meet professional needs (NAECY, 5). I find it very important to establish trusting and collaborative relationships with co-workers so that I can work them with and depend on them to assist my efforts in creating an education program that will optimize student success. Section IV of the Code of Ethics describes educators ethical responsibilities to his/her community and society. A statement in my personal oath reads I will serve as a voice for my students and promote programs, services, polices, and laws that compliment the well-being of my students and their families. The Code of Ethics states Our responsibilities to the community are to provide programs that meet the diverse needs of families, to cooperate with agencies and professions that share the responsibility for children, to assist families in gaining access to those agencies and allied professionals, and assist in the development of community programs that are needed but not currently available (NAECY, 6). I adhere to the vitality of this statement because the health, education, and well-being of children and their families are things that I feel should be valued by every educator. As an educator I am equipped with a voice that enables me to advocate for the
well-fare of students and I intend on using it to ensure that programs and
services are appropriately addressing these issues. In summary, the NAECY Code of Ethical Conduct has been put in place for educators to identify appropriate ways to conduct themselves in an education environment where issues of ethical conduct often arise. These ethical codes are meant to act as guidelines related to early childhood as educators work and make informed decisions that integrate information from a variety of sources. After careful examination of the NAECY Code of Ethical Conduct, I was able to develop a personal oath as a teacher that will assist me in measuring up to my professional commitment and responsibility to my students. I will hang My Personal Oath as a Teacher on every classroom wall that I teach in as a reminder of the underlying significance to my career.
