Teacher Education at North Greenville University

AIM- The teacher education program at North Greenville University, a Christ-centered
institution, prepares teacher candidates to become effective practitioners, caring leaders, and lifelong
learners in a diverse, changing society.
Every course within the division is designed to meet objectives aligned with the aim of the
teacher education program. The vision, mission, aim, and philosophy, along with unit outcomes and
candidate proficiencies are articulated in the divisions Conceptual Framework. As presented in the
framework, teacher candidates who are successful teachers are Effective Practitioners, Caring Leaders,
and Lifelong Learners. The objectives in this course are designed to develop your competencies as you
work toward these goals.
Course Description:
The integration of technology into teaching, learning and the curriculum is the focus of this
course. Students should have some computer skills/literacy upon entrance. This course provides an
introduction to the use of instructional technology including the preparation of an electronic portfolio.
Students will explore aspects of the use of technology as a teaching and assessment tool. This hands-on
course in a laboratory setting has important components. Students will explore technology, create
projects, and develop computer skills.
Course Rationale:
In todays technologically advanced world, pre-service teachers need the knowledge and
experience of how technology can be used to document their professional growth. An electronic
portfolio contains a systematic, purposeful, and meaningful collection of student work that exhibits the
pre-service teachers overall effort, progress and growth over time. The creation of the electronic
portfolio also allows students opportunities to reflect on their development as a teacher and to analyze
their own work samples that are included. The portfolios can be used to communicate the pre-service

experiences to prospective employers or to other institutions of higher learning, as well as a reflective

tool for self-assessment of professional growth.
This course provides a foundation for a multitude of technological tools in a practical educational
context. It is expected that skills learned in this course will be applied during the education experience at
NGU and in the classroom setting.
Textbook: No textbook is required for this course.
Needed Materials: Flash
