Course Descriptions:
Intro to GTT is the 6th grade GTT PLTW STEM introductory course to engineering and teamwork. Students
first learn to work together to complete a challenge project helping to build teamwork skills. Then students work
with multiple groups building many types of everyday mechanisms. This learning is followed by an introduction to
programming/coding with a presentation of their coded project. The mechanism builds and coding skills helps
prepare students for the 7th grade GTT course which combines those two elements into robotic builds. Finally,
students are introduced to the AutoDesk Inventor software that is used in the Design and Modeling 8th grade
course. Students critical thinking, communication, and collaboration skills are developed in this unique and
innovative class which better prepare students for their future.
Automation and Robotics is the 7th grade GTT PLTW STEM course that develops engineering and teamwork skills
with focus on mechanisms and movement. Students learning focuses on understanding and building everyday
mechanisms and then using that knowledge to solve challenge builds. The challenge builds require teams to create
mechanisms and robotic designs to solve both teacher presented, and student self-chosen, problems. Motors,
brains, and programming develop students critical thinking, communication, and collaboration skills in this unique
and innovative class which better prepares students for their future.
Design and Modeling is the 8th grade GTT PLTW STEM course that develops engineering skills as well as teamwork
skills with focus on how objects are designed and created. Students in this course learn how the design process is
used to solve problems and understand the influence of creativity and innovation in their lives. Every object begins
with a design idea. Students learn how these ideas come to exist from idea conception, to isometric and
orthographic sketches, and finally generating 3D models using Autodesk design software and materials. Students
critical thinking, communication, and collaboration skills are developed in this unique and innovative class which
better prepares students for their future.
Course Objectives:
Upon the successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

Define and apply major concepts of engineering/engineering technology.

Explore the use of technological advances and how they affect the quality of life in the home and workplace.

Digital Citizenship: Students will demonstrate an understanding of ethical, legal, and safe use of technology, and
its impact on society and the workplace.

Technology Concepts: Students will demonstrate an understanding of information technology systems, tools,
and operations. Exhibit use and understanding of terminology associated with the field of engineering.

Communication and Creative Expression: Students will use resources to communicate information, work
collaboratively, and creatively express ideas through various media formats. Model time management skills in a
cooperative learning environment

Inquiry Process: Students will develop the critical thinking skills needed to use technology and other resources to
solve problems, apply knowledge to new situations, create new knowledge, and make informed decisions.
Students will apply the decision making process while utilizing problem solving and critical thinking skills.
Illustrate and construct a functional design.
