Description

ARMOR-GRIP

, .

.

The PREFORMED ARMOR-GRIP Suspension is specially

designer to protect the conductor from the greater part of the
static and dynamic forces produced by aeolian vibration. It is
recommended both for the suspension and crossover of phase
conductors.

.
pressure device,
.

The special design of this accessory, based on the principle of

PREFORMED helical rods, offers the advantage over
conventional clamps that, having no pressurebolts, the
concentrated forces which provoke conductor fatigue are
avoided, the forces produced by the ARMOR-GRIP Suspension
are evenly distributed over the whole area of this contact with
the conductor. No pressure device is required, so that damage
by abrasion is completely avoided.

One of the particular features of this accesory is its ease of

installation, which requires no special tools.

ARMOR-GRIP

.

ARMOR-GRIP Suspension is intented for use on all types of

conductors or cables, such as phase conductors: aluminium,
aluminium alloy, acsr, copper, etc., groundwire: galvanized
steel, alumoweld, etc., and fiber optic cables both types, OPGW
and ADSS.

It consists of the following elements:

1. Neoprene insert, with an internal alu-alloy reinforcerment
is resistant to ozone, extreme temperatures and Feather
conditions, and contaminating chemical or saline agents.

60 Double
ARMOR-GRIP.

Vertical Breaking Strenght:

See Table of Characteristics.
Slip Load:
20% of the rated breaking strength of the conductor under
unbalanced load conditions.
Sag and line angle:
Maximun recommended is 30. For angles of between 30 and
60, the Double ARMOR-GRIP Suspension is recommended.

INSTALLATION

ARMOR-GRIP
,
Preformed Line Products
,
.
.

The ARMOR-GRIP Suspension may be used on conductors

damaged by fatigue at the suspension point, having previously
installed a PREFORMED Splice on the damaged area, thereby
prolonging the life of the conductor. The diameter of the GSA
will correspond to the overall diameter of the conductor plus
the Splice.

,
.

In high-corrosion areas where Utilities are obliged to use

copper conductors, Apresa-PLP Spain has developed a copper
alloy GSA which resists any possibility of electrogalvanic
corrosion.

,

, .

Remember that the lay direction of this accessory must be the

same as that of the external layer of the conductor or cable to
which it is applied.

2.

The clamp itself, of high-strength cast aluminium alloy.

On AGS for copper conductors it is made of brass.

3.
4.

Aluminium/brass alloy strap

Nut. bolt with split-pin and lock-nut, of galganized or Inox
steel.
PREFORMED rods of aluminium alloy, aluminium
covered steel, galvanized steel, or copper alloy according
to the conductor.

5.

Centering Mark for positioning of the rods on the clamp.

Colour code assists the identification of the size of the
conductor or cable on which the accesory is to be applied.

ARMOR-GRIP - SGSA

ARMOR-GRIP SUPPORT

m/m

Technical specification
All dimensions in mm

Description

Armor-Grip

.

,

.

The ARMOR-GRIP Support is intended for use on aluminium

based conductors, and it is designed to be used with clamp-top
horizontal and vertical line post insulators. It reduces the static
and dynamic stress at the support point, so that the conductor is
better able to
withstand the effects of vibration than the armor-clamp
attachments.

ARMOR-GRIP

,

.

While ARMOR-GRIP Support provides improved protection

against fatigue of the conductor, on some lines the vibration may
be so severe that the use of vibration dampers may be necessary.

The rods for an aluminium based conductor are made of

aluminium covered steel in the smallest diametres. Then, they
are made of aluminium alloy.
A maximum sag and line angle of 30 may be turned using a single
ARMOR-GRIP Support, and a maximum of 60 using a DoubleSupport unit.
They are supplied with the following identifications:
Center mark for initial positioning and center the rods during
installation.
Colour code assits the identification of the size of the cable on
which the accessory is to be applied.
Identification with catalogue code and range of cable diameter
for which it is suitable.
Remember that the lay direction of this accessory must be the
same than that of the external layer of the cable to which it is
applied.

CUSION GRIP - GSC

CUSION-GRIP SUSPENSION

Description

C 1998 CUSHION PLP

.

.
CUSHION-GRIP TM.

Since 1998 the CUSHION concept has been field proven with some
previous products from PLP applied to OPGW and conductors.
Both of them have had broad industry usage and acceptance.
With that experience the CUSHION-GRIP TM Suspension was
developed.

,
,
,
.

The level of protection provided by the CUSHION-GRIP TM

Suspension is comparable to a bolted suspension clamp over
armor rods, but without the material and labor costs associated
with the armor rods.

,
.
,
.
.

It has a unique design which allows the lower captive fasteners to

act as a hinge. This feature creates a one-piece unit that is Simple
spread open and slid over the conductor. There are no loose parts
to handle or to drop. The one-piece design makes installation
simple, even when using hot sticks or when working from a
helicopter platform.

3. CUSHION-GRIP ,
.
4. .
5. .

The main features and benefits are:

1. No loose parts: all are captive and factory installed to create a
one-piece assembly.
2. Simple labor saving installation: just spread the body halves,
place over the conductor and tighten fasteners.
3. Internal Cushions minimize conductor bending stresses at
critical entry locations.
4. Compatible with standard attachment hardware.
5. Designed for EHV Applications corona free.

PREFORMED Armor Rods are designed to reinforce the

conductor and to protect it from the damage to which it is
normally subjected at the suspension point by both static and
dynamic forces, e.g. Iongitudinal traction, flexion due to bending,
radial compression, torsion, alternative flexion, etc.

They are made of aluminium Alloy (AVP), copper Alloy (LVP),

galvanized steel (GVP) or aluminium covered steel (XVP or WVP)
according to whether they are to be used on conductors of
aluminium alloy/ACSR, copper, steel or aluminium
steel/alumoweld, respectively.

Although the degree of protection required for a specific line

depends on a number of factors, such as the design of the line
itself, the extreme temperatures and winds speeds expected, the
conductor tension, etc., as a general recommendation Armor
Rods should be used as minimum protection where
conventional, bolted clamps are used for conductor suspension.

The accessories are supplied with the following indications:

Number of rods por set.
Colour code assists identification of the size of the conductor
or cable on which the accessory is to be applied.
Centering mark for installation positioning.
Identification with catalogue number and range of admissible
conductor or cable diameters.

.

The length of the rods is greater if the conductor is suspended by

means of two clamps, rather than one.

,

, .

Remember that the lay direction of this accessory must be the

same as that of the external layer of the conductor or cable to
which it is applied.

Unless otherwise specified, all orders for this accessory will be

supplied with the rod lengths corresponding to a single clamp.
For a double clamp, if the distance between clamps is greater
than 305 mm., please consult our Technical Office for the correct
installation procedure.

They are supplied with the following indications:

Centering mark to indicate positioning for installation .
Colour code to help identify the size of the conductor on which
it is to be installed.
Identification with the catalogue code and the range of
conductor diameters for which it is suitable.
Number of rods per set and/or sub-set.

- Restore full electrical conductivity and mechanical continuity to

homogeneus conductors which have suffered breakage of up to
100% of the strands.
- Splice homogenus conductors.

Line Splices may be used whenever the damaged part of the

conductor is situated in such a position that, once installed, the
ends of the rods are at a minimum distance of 150 mm. from any
PREFORMED armour rod end existing at the suspension point.

FULL TENSION SPLICE (ACSR conductors)

All dimensions in mm

Description

PREFORMED Full-Tension Splices are accessories designed to

provide full electrical conductivity and mechanical continuity for
ACSR conductor splices.

,
,
.

They are especially recommended when it is suspected that

someof the wires of the steel core may be broken.

:

,
.
-,
. -

.

,
.

In general, they consist of three elements:

Splice for the steel core wires, made of aluminium covered
steel.

Filler rods made of aluminium alloy. These filler rods are

placed over the splice rods for steel core, and have the
function of making the splice homogeneous with the
section of the conductor.

Splice for the external layer of aluminiumn wires, made of

aluminium alloy.

For certain types of conductor it is not necessary to use filler

rods to obtain a homogeneous conductor section after splicing
the steel core.

Full-Tension Splices may be used where the damaged part of the

conductor to be spliced is in such a position that once the splice
is in place, there remains a minimum distance of 150 mm.
between it and the end of any PREFORMED Armour Rods
installed at the suspension point.
When the damaged point to be spliced is at, or next to the
suspension point, please consult our Technical Office.

AIR FLOW SPOILER

All dimensions in mm

Description

, -
. -
,

.
,
.

The Air Flow Spoiler is designed to counteract full span

galloping which is a damaging wind and ice related
phenomenon. Galloping is a low frequency, high amplitude
motion which can occur on the conductors and earthwires on
overhead Electrical Power Transmission and Distribution
Lines, causing mechanical damage. Fittings and support
structures can also be damaged and transmission and
distibution lines can experience outages.

,
,
.
,
, .

The Air Flow Spoiler maintains aerodynamic stability

continually changing the profile of the conductor to the wind,
and preventing a constant longitudinal section of ice building
up. It has propen effective in the field; significantly reducing
galloping, abrasion and fatigue.

,

. ,

,
.

They are manufactured from rigid, solid, high impact

polyvinyl chloride, possessing excellent chemical and
strength properties and which will retain good physical
characteristics within a range of extreme temperatures.
Outdoor ageing tests indicate that the material does not
deteriorate in case of severe weather conditions, industrial
pollution or salt water.

.
For use on any type of conductor.

DEAD-END SET (for fiber optic cables)

Technical specification
For use on OPGW

For use on OPGW made of alumoweld

For use on ADSS cables

Description

-
( +
/)
, .

The Dead-end Sets for Fiber Optic cables consist of the

PREFORMED Dead-end Set (reinforcing rods + PREFORMED
dead-end) and some different hardwares, that are required to
tight the Fiber Optic cables to the towers.

- (
) .
,
, : , , ,
, ,
.

, , , ..

.

The necessary hardwares may change depending upon the type

of Fiber Optic cable (OPGW or ADSS) and the configuration of the
set. The hardwares, that are also manufactured by us and are
shown at the end of this chapter, are: shackle, thimble clevis,
extension link, adjustable extension link, tower attaching clamp
and down-lead clamp.

CFO -

WRFO -

- .
(AGL WGL)
,
,
, .

In order to avoid electrogalvanic corrosion, the PREFORMED

accesories are made of a material compatible with that of the
cable outer lay, on which they are applied, is made of. So we
distinguish the type CFO for Aluminium-Alloy based Flbre Optic
cables (like AAC, ACSR,AA/AW); the type WRFO for Aluminium
covered steel based Fibre Optic cables; or the type AXRFO for
Dielectric Fibre Optic cables.

For further information or a special requeriment, please contact

us because we can adapt our products to any need.

The Reinforcing Rods (AGL or WGL) are mounted directly over

the cable, the rods are longer and thicker than the protection
rods used for similar diameter, due to the need to distribute the
pressure induced by the cable tension over a wider area.

34

, ,
,

.

Moreover, the torsional effects caused to the cable by axial

tension and temperature changes are relieved by using an outer
lay of opposite lay rods.

.
For use on OPGW.

The Suspension Sets for Fiber Optic cables consists of an

ARMORGRIP Suspension (body clamp + rods) and some
different hardwares, that are required to hold the Fiber Optic
cables to the towers.

,
ARMOR-GRIP

: , ..

All our knowledge about the problems at the suspension point,

static and dynamic forces, from aeolian vibration to abrassion,
from ice-loading to line angles, has allowed us to recommed the
use of our ARMOR-GRIP Suspension as an ideal element for the
suspension of Fiber Optic cables of any kind: OPGW, ADSS,. . .

-
ARMOR-GRIP
, (GSAFO)
(WGSA),
,
1 , -
.

The ARMOR-GRIP Suspension for Fiber Optic cable is supplied

with rods made of Aluminium Alloy (GSAFO) or Aluminium
Covered Steel (WGSA), according to the composition of the Fiber
Optic cable, being the only difference with the conventional
ones, introduced in chapter I of this catalogue (those dedicated
to Transmission and Distribution) a longer length of the rods.

The neccesary hardwares may change depending upon the type

of Fiber Optic cable (OPGW or ADSS) and the configuration of the
set. The hardwares, that are also manufactured by us and are
shown at the end of this chapter, are: shackle, twisted link,
parallel groove clamp and tower attaching clamp. For further
information or a special requirement, please, contact us because
we can adapt our products to any need.

This Special Short-Span Suspension Set is recommended for use

when installing dielectric cables in spans with lengths lower than
75 m. As shown in the picture, besides the PREFORMED
suspension sets, they consist of a round thimble and a spiral
hook. These elements are necessary to tight the cables to the
pole.

The real PREFORMED products consist of a suspension tangent

support installed over the cable near the protecting rods, which
are also mounted over the fiber optic cable. These reinforcing
rods help to make the application softer, avoiding any possibility
of damage to the fibers, which are the most fragile element in
these cables and also the most important.

FIBERLIGN ALUMINIUM SUPPORT

Technical specification
For use on ADSS cables

Description

, , .
, .
,
,
.

( )
.

.

.

The FIBERLIGN Aluminium Support is a tangent suspension

hardware designed for short span, low tension ADSS fiber optic
cable installations. The base and keeper are joined with an
interlocking hinge that allows easy access to the cavity area.
Cushion inserts made from soft polyurethane, capture and
secure the cable firmly without causing excess pressure.

:
,
.

The cushion insert is molded for a specific cable outer diameter

range and should be used only on cables within that range. A
reference number is casted into the end of each insert for
identification. It provides gentle gripping and moderate
longitudinal holding strength depending upon the specific cable.
For the mounting, the FIBERLIGN Aluminium Support can be
bolted or banded to a structure: with a through-bolt when
mounted to a wood pole, and with a metal band when mounted
to a concrete or metal pole.

, ,
.

.

The large molded cavity can be used for stringing in cable. This
cavity (without the cushion inserts) provides enough clearance
for a pulling-in rope and swivel assembly typically used in field
applications. The smooth surface cause little friction, Hus
allowing capable performance as a stringing device.

,
,
10 .

,
,
20 .
, ,
.

When used as a stringing device, the maximum recommended

sag or line angle is approximately 10 degrees for most ADSS
cables. When used as a permanent installation, the maximum
recommended sag or line angle is approximately 20 degrees for
most cables. These recommended sag and angle limits can be
affected by cable size, brand and stringing tension and loading
conditions. Please consult us for exceptions when greater angles
are required.

45

, ,
.
,
.
.

If necessary, the base and keeper can be reused if in good

conditions. Regarding the cushioned inserts, if there are any
signs of scratches, tears or damage, replace them with new ones.

,
. 2
,
.

A good advantage of FIBERLIGN Aluminium Support is the

stacking that lets multi-cable installations. Two or more
assemblies can be stacked against the structure, saving pole
space and hardware fittings. For installations of more than two
cables, a brace should be used to help support.

GSAVR

ARMOR-GRIP SUSPENSION WITH

REINFORCING RODS

Technical specification

GSAVR - For use on any optic cable OPGW

Description

Armor-Grip c

, .
,
, , .

The ARMOR-GRIP Suspension with reinforcing rods provides

superior cable and fiber protection at the suspension point. The
combination of Structural Reinforcing Rods and Outer Rods
reduces compression, clamping and bending stresses on cable.
Negative weather related cable motion, such as aeolian
vibration, galloping and wind sway are also minimised.

- .

It is specially designed for supporting all installations of Optical

Ground Wire (OPGW) and in certain installations of All-Dielectric
Self-Supporting Cable (ADSS).

The reinforcing lengths are made of aluminium alloy, like the

rods of the ARMOR-GRIP Suspension Clamp.

400
,
.

- 30.
30-60 .
,
40, 40-80
.

The length of the reinforcing rods is 400 mm. longer than the
standard length of the rods of the corresponding AGS clamp to
be applied on the reinforcing rods installed over the cable.
The maximum recommended line angle for a single suspension
applied on fiber optic cables type OPGW is 30. For OPGW Line
angles between 30 and 60, the recommendation is to use the
double suspension. In the case of ADSS, the maximum
recommended line angle is 40. From 40 to 80, a double
dielectric suspension is recommended.

HELICAL ROD SPACER

Description

.

, .

PREFORMED Helical Rod Spacers are designed to provide a

uniform spacing of the subconductors in horizontal twinconductor bundles, thereby ensuring consistency of the electrical
characteristics of the line, and minimizing the effects of
windinduced vibration and subconductor oscillation which may
damage the conductor. At the time they keep the subconductors
from entangling due to galloping, ice unloading and fault
currents.

.

,
.

These accessories are made of high-strength aluminium alloy.

Being made of the same material as the external layer of the
conductor on which they are installed, there is no possibility of
galvanic corrosion.

There are no moving parts or articulated joints to create radio

noise through looseness.

10-20 % ,
500 . 750 .
.

Helical Spacers are designed to be corona-free at voltages of 1020% above the operating voltage, up to 500 kV. AC and 750 kV.
DC.

They are easily and uniformly installed without tools, and since
there are no bolts requiring special torquing, their correct
placement may be verified from the ground.

They may also be installed on hot lines.

Fault current:

2+2
EHV .

.

Helical Spacers, in their standard 2+2 rod design, meet the fault
current requirements of the majority of EHV lines. Nevertheless,
their fault current capacity can be increased by the addition of
extra rods or by increasing their diameter.

51

EHV

80 .

,
.
,

.

.

Experimental work done on EHV Lines has indicated that the

normal distance between Helical Spacers should not exceed 80
meters. However, in certain areas exposed to constant high
winds and ice accumulation, this distance should be shortened in
order to increase the stability of the conductor bundle. The
results of both field and laboratory experiments indicate that
one of the most effective methods of reducing subconductor
oscillation and of increasing bundle stability is to reduce the
length of subspans and place the spacers in an asymmetric
pattern.

:
,
,
.

.

This accessory is supplied with the following indications:

,

, .

Remember that the lay direction of this accessory must be the

same as that of the external layer of the conductor or cable to
which it is applied.

Such spacing detunes the entire spacer conductor system and

thereby reduces the incidence of sympathetic vibration between
subspans.
The special design parameters and the environment conditions
of each line should be studied independently. On Technical
Department is at your disposal to help select the most suitable
spacer and its placement pattern.

Colour code to help identify the size of the conductor on

which it is to be installed.

impedancje for respective conductor or cable.

(16, 20, 25, 32, 40, 50, 61)

,
.

Clamp code (16, 20, 25, 32, 40, 50, 61)

The clamp code represents the top end of the
clamp range or maximum accepted cable
diameter in milimeters.

Description

VORTX
(
, ). VORTX

Stockbridge.

VORTX (Stockbridge) Dampers respond to wind induced line

vibration that is characterized by high frequency, low amplitude
motion due to aeolian vibration. The VORTX damper with Large
and Small weights can achieve greater power dissipation and
frequency response performance than "symmetrical weight"
Stockbridge damper designs.

VORTX
.

, .
.
,
.

VORTX Dampers can be clamped directly onto most aluminum

based conductors including ACSR, AAC, AAAC and ACAR. PLP
Protector Rods should be considered for applications on
aluminum conductors with relatively soft outer aluminum strand
construction such as ACSS. Protector rods are designed to reduce
direct clamping stress on cable vulnerable to surface or core
damage this includes fiber optic cable designs such as ADSS
and OPGW.

.

PAE,
.

Generally as conductors and cables increase in size they tend to

vibrate at lower frequencies. The VORTX Damper is more
effective for larger size conductors while the Spiral Vibration
Dampers (our reference PAE) are generally more effective for the
smaller diameter cables that can vibrate at much higher
frequencies.

.

The degree of protection required on a specific line depends

upon a number of factors such as line design, local climate,
tension, exposure to wind flow, and line vibration history in the
area. With assistance from your local PLP Sales Representative,
the necessary information can be assembled for review and
followed up with detailed PLP recommendations for your
system.

Components

1. .
. ,
, .

1. Clamp & Keeper: the clamp has an extruded hook shaped

profile to hang onto the cable or conductor while tightening the
keeper. Product identification, installation torque, and lot
number are permanently marked on the clamp.
2. Bolt, Washer, and Lock Washer: used to fasten the keeper to
the clamp and secure the entire damper assembly to the cable or
conductor.
3/4.Weights: two weight sizes (galvanized ductile iron casting)
pro vide up to 4 resonant response frequencies for more
effective protection; the small one provides damping at higher
frequencies.
5. Messenger: made of formed hard galvanized steel wires.

SERVICE-GRIP DEAD END

XRA
GRA

Technical specification

For use on Aluminium alloy based and ACSR conductors

.
For use on insulated conductor

Description

/ .
, ,
.

PREFORMED Service-Grip dead-ends are desiqned to secure

low voltage conductors or cables for service/house connections.
They are similar to Distribution-Grip dead-ends (XRD), but as
corresponds to their function, they have lesser mechanical
characteristics.

(XRA) (GRA)
,
.

They are made of aluminium covered steel (XRA) or galvanized

steel (GRA) according to whether they are used on aluminum r
insulated conductors, respectively.

Preformed Line Products,

,

.

In common with all PREFORMED accesories, an out standing

feature of Service-Grip dead-end is the facility with which they
are installed by hand without tools.

DISTRIBUTION TIE

XRZD

Technical specification

For use on Aluminium alloy based and ACSR conductors

.

Description

-

.

PREFORMED Distribution Ties are accesories designed to

secure conductors to the top groove of vertically mounted posttype insulators.

,
,
, ,
..

They are supplied with a corrosion-proof neoprene-pad which

prevents abrasion between conductor and insulator in situations
where there is aeolian vibration, galloping, etc.

,

,
, .

They therefore provide a much improved means of securing

conductors compared with more traditional methods, while their
installation requires neither tools nor special skills.

-

, .

.

Distribution Ties are made of aluminium covered steel (XRZD) for

use on ACSR, aluminium alloy and aluminium covered steel
conductors. For its use on copper conductors they are made of
copper alloy (LRZD).

For their application on insulated conductors the neoprene pad

is unnecessary.

-

. ,
.

The use of Distribution Ties is recommended in areas with

moderated vibration, that is, where there is no experience of
damage due to abrasion when using the conventional systems
made of aluminium wires. Where there is a certain risk because
of excessive vibration, it is recommended to use our Spiral
Vibration Dampers (PAE).

TWIN GRIP TIE

XRDD

Technical specification

.
For use on Aluminium alloy based and ACSR conductors

Description

-

.

The Twin-Grip Tie is a two component insulator tie designed to

secure bare or jacketed distribution conductors in the top groove
of vertically mounted pin or post-type insulators.

,
( 25
),

.
-

.

It is intended for use in conditions where there is a significant

degree of uplift on the conductor (maximum: 25 on either side
of insulator), and can provide a more economic method of
construction than sectioning the line. Due to its resistance to
abrasion, the Twin-Grip Tie provides an improved method of
securing conductors compared to Clamp Top insulators or hand
binds.

,
.

These acessories are made of material compatible with the

conductors to which they are applied. For jacketed conductors,
they are made with galvanised steel wires.

- :

The Twin-Grip Ties are supplied with the following

identifications:
Centering mark to indicate positioning for installation.

,
,
.

.

,

, .

Colour code to help to identify the size of the cable or

stand on which it will be installed.

Identification with catalogue code and range of cable

diameter for which it is suitable.

Remember that the lay direction of this accessory must be the

same as that of the external layer of the conductor or cable to
which it is applied.

GUY-GRIP DEAD-END

Technical specification

GRT

For use on galvanized steel cables

IRT

or use on galvanized and stainless steel cables

Description

GUY-GRIP

.
,
,
.
.

, ,

,
, .

PREFORMED GUY-GRIP dead-ends are intended for use on

single wood poles associated with distribution or telephone lines
construction.
These accessories are usually made of galvanized steel, with the
cable looped in order to avoid the posterior slackening of the
line. They can also be manufactured in stainless steel.

PREFORMED, GUYGRIP ,
.

As with all PREFORMED accessories, GUY-GRIP dead-ends

stand out for their ease of installation, requiring no special tools.

:

() .
, ,
.

.

They are supplied with the following identification:

Cross-over marks for initial positioning of the legs.

,
, ,
.

To help identify each leg of the accessory once installed, they are
made with one sligthly longer than the other.

,

, .

They are based on the helicoidal concept and provide a constant

radial gripping force which, due to the safety margin of extra
length on the legs, is superior to the breaking strength of the
cable on which it is installed.

Colour code asists identification of the size of the cable on

which the accessory is to be applied.
Identification with catalogue number and range of admissible
conductor or cable diameters.

Remember that the lay direction of this accessory must be the

same as that of the external layer of the conductor or cable to
which it is applied.

BIG-GRIP DEAD-END

Technical specification

GRTG

For use on galvanized steel cables

Description

BIG-GRIP
/ ,
.
, ,
, .
,
.

PREFORMED Big-grip Dead-ends are designed for anchoring the

stay / guy terminations on transmission tower, antenna and
Rother types of heavy duty constructions.
These accessories are made of a material compatible with that of
the cable on which they will be applied, usually galvanised steel.
They have got cabled loop in order to avoid the posterior
slackening of the line.

,
,
,
. ,
BIG-GRIP
.

They are based on the helical concept and provide a constant

radial gripping force which, due to the safety margin of extra
length on the legs, is superior to the breaking strength of the
cable on which they are installed. Like all the PREFORMED
accessories, Big-grip Dead-ends are very easy to be installed, not
requiring any special tool.

:

() .
,
,
.

.

They are supplied with the following identifications:

Cross-over mark for initial positioning of the legs.

,
, ,
- .
H.
,

, .

In order to help to identify each leg of the accessory once

installed, they are made with one of them slightly longer than
the other one.

Colour code assists the idenfication of the size of the

cable on which the accessory is to be applied.

Identification with catalogue code and range of cable

diameter for which it is suitable.

Remember that the lay direction of this accessory must be the

same than that of the external layer of the cable to which it is
applied.

For the calculation of the number of necessary Spiral Vibration

Dampers, we only have to take into account the span lengths. In
normal conditions, for span lengths shorter than 300 meters, 2
pieces per span will be mounted; for span lengths from 301 to
507 meters, 4 pieces per span wil be mounted; and for span
lengths greater than 570 meters, 6 pieces per span. Anyway, we
recommend you to contact us in case of any doubt.

Spiral Vibration Dampers must be installed according to our

Application Procedures, with the following consideration in the
case of ADSS cables: for lines of up to 138 kV, they will be
mounted at a distance of the width of a hand; for lines from 139
to 230 kV, at a distance of 3 meters; and for lines from 231 to
500 kV, at distance of 5 meters.

XRD.

Dead-end: Coated (NART) manufactured of aluminum alloy wire,

is designed for direct application over conductors jacketed with
neoprene, polyethylene, vinyl, or rubber. The sub-setted rods in
each leg, bonded together with neoprene, exert a law radial
pressure without damaging the jacket. Because it is not
necessary to skin the plastic covering, the same dead-end can be
used for either aluminum-base or copper-base conductors.
Coated dead-ends should not be used over fabric braided
conductor. In this case, the fabric should be skinned and a
distribution-grip dead-end applied.

Holding strength

:
,

Holding values of coated dead-ends are dependent on a

combination of several factors:
Conductor size, type, stranding.
Thickness of jacket.
Type of jacket.
Specific density of various polyethylenes.

.
(
)

.

They are supplied with the following identifications:

Colour code to help identify the size of the conductor on which
is to be installed.
Crossover marks assists identification of the size of the
conductor/cable on which the accessory is to be applied.
Identification with catalogue number and range of admissible
conductor or cable diameter.
