Roll in to the Railway Museum

The National Railway Museum in Port Adelaide is full of family

fun. Founded in 1963 by Ron Fluck, the National Railway
Museum was made to save and preserve steam locomotives.
Some things the family can enjoy at the museum are the steam
punk display, the mini train ride and all of the old trains. The
National Railway Museum is something the whole family can
enjoy!

Tea and Sugar, Please

0.
One of the most popular things at the museum is
the Tea and Sugar train. The Tea and Sugar train is
an interactive way to learn about how people who
worked around the tracks got supplies. The Tea and
Sugar train started its duties in 1917 and lasted all
the way until 1996, where the National Railway
Museum then received it and placed it in their
museum. The Tea and Sugar train has carriages for
banking, a butcher, beds, goods and snacks. Each
of these carriages are interactive, each filled with
their own delights. Children will have fun also while
learning about how the train industry worked in the
20th Century. The Tea and Sugar train delivered
goods to people in rural areas and gave them a
connection to the outside world; at Christmas time,
Father Christmas even gave children gifts!

Off The Rails Models

Another thing that is well- known with the
locals is the model railway. The model
railway shows how Adelaides train
systems work and also shows how Port
Adelaide connects to the city. The
amazing detail will catch your eyes and
allow you to stare for a while. There are
also lists of objects to find around the
model, such as Doctor Whos TARDIS, a
Batmobile and much more. Children will
have a great time reading through the lists
and walking through the display to
discover the hidden things! The model
railway is entertaining, educational and
interesting.
