end of the year and in subsequent school years.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
In Mandarin 3, students will build upon and expand their language knowledge base. Classroom activities
expand skills needed to gain a competence in a modern language to achieve the long-term goal of
balanced bilingualism. These skills include interrelatedness of subject areas, intercultural awareness
embracing international issues, holistic view of knowledge and communication as fundamental to
learning. Students will become acquainted with life in Mandarin speaking countries through texts, music,
films and various media. Student will learn to communicate using the present, past, future, and
subjunctive tenses through listening, speaking, reading comprehension and writing. Through the study
of foreign language at WPS, students are encouraged to acquire proficiency through communication,
cultures, connections, comparisons and communities realizing that there are multiple ways of seeing the
world.
