StudentscanloseDojopointsfordisruptivebehavior,notfollowingdirections,not
doingtheirwork,etc.
Eachweek,studentswillneedtogain20DojoPointstogeta100dailygrade(19

School.MyfirstdaywasFriday,August21andwasveryimpressedbythistalentedand
respectfulgroupofstudents.SinceIwillbeteachingyoursonordaughterthissemester,I
wantedtoreachouttoyouandintroducemyselfandprovideyouwithcontactinformationin
caseyouhaveanyquestionsorcomments.

IreceivedmyBachelorofSciencedegreeinHistoryfromtheUniversityofNorthAlabamain
2010and,morerecently,receivemyMasterofArtsinEducationdegreeinHistoryfromUNA
inMay2015.Imarriedmywife,Allison,almosttwoyearsagoandweliveintheNorth
Florencearea.Iamverypassionateabouthistoryandhopetosharethispassionwithyour
children.Ibelievehistoryismorethanregurgitatingfacts,butunderstandingthesignificance
ofthefacts.Ialsobelievehistoryistheperfectsubjecttoworkonstudentsreading
comprehension,writing,andcriticalthinkingskills.Studentsneedtocontinuallybetterthese
skillstopreparethemselvesforcollegeandtheircareersafterhighschool.

Also,beforeIarrivedthestudentscoveredCh.1,andIgaveallstudentsa100dailygradefor
completingthework.TheywerealsogivenaStatesandCapitalsTest.Thatgradewas
promisedtobeatestgrade,andIplantohonorthat.However,Iamgivingallstudentsan
opportunitytoreplacethatgradewithasmallproject,whichwillbeduethisFriday,August28.
AsasubstitutefortheStatesandCapitalsTestgrade,studentscandoaminireporton
thestateofAlabama.Studentsmustwrite
three(3)paragraphsonAlabama
.The
first
paragraphshouldbeaboutAlabamastatefacts,includingthethestatebird,the
stateflower,andotherinterestingfacts(H11).The
second
paragraphshouldbeabout
thestategovernment,includingthecurrentgovernmentandotherinterestingfacts
aboutthestategovernment(p.H10).The
last
paragraphshouldbeaboutwhyyoulike
(ordislike)livinginAlabama.Onceagainthisprojectisdueon
Friday,August28.
