By the end of this lesson students will have the opportunity to demonstrate their

Use strategies to double and half double-digit numbers
Apply their knowledge of multiplication facts

The following resources will be required:
Ladybug resource
Writing materials
Student Prior Knowledge
Prior to this lesson, students already be able to:
Use their 2x multiplication facts
Use strategies to determine answers to multiplication and division
problems

Lesson Procedure
Motivation and Lesson Introduction

Gain students attention


Explain that they will be working on doubling and
halving
Write a problem on the board that involves
doubling and ask students to show you how they
come to the answer
Explain how to use distributive properties
Do the same to demonstrate how to half
Explain that they will be doing a ladybug sheet
where they have to double and halve numbers
using these strategies
Explain that they will need to stick it into their
books and work out the answers beside the sheet
Ask hand-out helpers to hand the resource out

Procedure and Lesson Content
Ask students to point to the thought bubble and
explain on the board how they will write their
answers into the ladybugs
Allow time for students to complete
Allow those who need more help to go with Simone
to work on strategies
Go through the sheet and mark the answers
Demonstrate the answers on the board
Lesson Conclusion
Ask students to clean up and to put their materials away,
ready for lunch/next lesson.

Differentiation

Put Hearing Aid device on

hearing.
