Curriculumdevelopmenthasabroadscopebecauseitisnotonlyaboutthe
school,thelearnersandtheteachers.Itisalsoaboutthedevelopmentofasociety
ingeneral.
Intodaysknowledgeeconomy,curriculumdevelopmentplaysavitalrolein
improvingtheeconomyofacountry.Italsoprovidesanswersorsolutionstothe
worldspressingconditionsandproblems,suchasenvironment,politics,socio
economics,andotherissuesonpoverty,climatechangeandsustainable
development.
Theremustbeachainofdevelopmentalprocesstodevelopasociety.First,the
schoolcurriculumparticularlyinhighereducationmustbedevelopedtopreserve
thecountrysnationalidentityandtoensureitseconomysgrowthandstability.
Thus,thepresidentofacountrymusthaveaclearvisionforhispeopleandfor
thecountryaswell.
Forinstance,inthePhilippines,ifPresidentAquinowouldlikethecountryasthe
AsiaPacificstourismhub,thentheschoolcurriculummustbedevelopedalong
thatline.Curricularprogramsforhighereducationcanbecraftedinsuchaway
thatitwillboostthetourismindustryandworkintodifferentmodelsonedu
tourism,ecotourism,culturaltourism,medotourism,biztourism,techno
tourism,agritourism,architourism,amongothers.
Ifuniversitieshavecurricularprogramsthatareinnovativeandindemandinthe
localorglobalmarkets,manystudentsevenfromforeigncountrieswillenroll.
Highernumberofenrolleeswouldmeanincomeonthepartoftheuniversities.
Asaresult,iftheincomeisbig,itcanbeusedforteacherspromotion,
scholarshipandremuneration.Itcanalsobeusedinfundingresearchand
developmentendeavors,andinputtingupschoolfacilities,libraries,and
laboratories.
Ibelievethatthecountryseconomycanimprovethepeopleswayoflifethrough
curriculumdevelopment.Andinordertodevelopit,curriculumexpertsor
specialistsshouldworkhandinhandwiththelawmakers(senatorsand
