Welcome to Mrs. Hoggatts Health and Careers Class!

Health is a COUSD course graduation requirement. We will be covering the eight CA Health overarching
standards: Essential Concepts, Analyzing Influences, Accessing Valid Information, Interpersonal
Communication, Decision Making, Goal Setting, Practicing Health-Enhancing Behaviors, & Health Promotion.
Course Description:
The Health curriculum provides students with health information in order to examine their life styles, select goals,
and make plans to achieve and maintain optimum health. This involves choosing behaviors that prevent
illness/accidents, and promote health for oneself and others. Emphasis on responsible decision making,
effective communication skills and acceptance of personal responsibility for lifelong health is incorporated
throughout the course.
Course Objectives:
Make students more aware of the outcomes of choices they make in life.
Create awareness for ones health through an abundance of information: lecture, video, projects and
presentations.
Note: Students are encouraged to become certified in first aid and/or CPR.
