By the end of this lesson students will have the opportunity to demonstrate their ability to:
Look closely at a text and identify similarities and differences before and after the
Onceler in the Lorax story
Relate to the storyline and the effects of the Onceler on the environment

Whiteboard and marker
Class set of Lorax books
English books

Student Prior Knowledge
Prior to this lesson, students already be able to:
Recognise Dr. Seuss language
Read the story of the Lorax
Understand the meaning behind the Lorax


Lesson P rocedure

Motivation and Lesson Introduction

Differentiation

Put Hearing Aid device on
Gain students attention
for student with Low
Ask students to get out their English books
hearing.
Hand out the Lorax books for students to

investigate
As a focus strategy ask for
whole body listening.
On the board brainstorm with the students what

they thought life was like for the

animals/characters before the Onceler

Then do a brainstorm of what life was like after the

Onceler, what it looked like etc.


Discuss the colours used in the book as well
Ask the hand-out helpers to hand out the before
and after sheets.
Procedure and Lesson Content

Ask students to glue it into their English books


Explain that students will need to draw what it
looked like before and after in the boxes on the
sheet.
Then on the next page they need to use dot-points
to show what we brainstormed
Explain that they can use the ideas on the board or
make their own.
Allow time for them to do this and explain that
they will only have so long to draw then they will
need to move on.

Ask students if they have
any questions

who may be confused.

likely to be unfocussed and
ensure each student is on
task.
Provide stickers to students
who are putting a lot of
effort into their work.


Explain that they have a few minutes to finish what

they are writing
