RC2

REV CONTROLLER V2.0

Goals

Control a brushless DC motor with as little high-level control as

possible

Seamless communication between host and motor controller

Low cost, lightweight and small footprint

Keep a small vendor list

Design

Requires an extended H-bridge design

Six power N-MOSFETs chosen for each leg of bridge

Bleed-off circuits build around each FET

Communication handled by driver chip

PWM input; Arduino source

ESTOPn line included in communication

The Circuit

Control & Inputs

Controlled by a standard PWM signal

ESTOP line to always be pulled high, motor stops if power to host

is lost

Direction can also be changed via line from host

Logic level voltage is given by host

All signals given by host via DB9 (Serial Cable)

Cost Projections

Parts alone come up to $21.63

Shipping is estimated at $5.00

PCB, if not through RPI, will come to approximately $10.00 per

board

The case will come to be about $7.00

This adds up to a higher bound of about $45.00 per motor

controller

Work Still to be Done

PCB to be laid out. Cannot be done at moment because of lack of

design rules

PCB to be manufactures & components added

Plastic housing to be designed
