2015 Student & Early Career Professional Travel Stipend

To Attend the 2015 Annual American Public Health Association Meeting


October 31 November 4, 2015 in Chicago, IL
Purpose:
The Asian & Pacific Islander Caucus for Public Health (APIC) is offering two travel stipends for Students or
Early Career Professionals to attend Health in All Policies, the 143 rd Annual American Public Health
Association Meeting & Exposition, at the McCormick Place Convention Center in Chicago, Illinois, October 31
through November 4, 2015. (For more information about the APHA Conference visit www.apha.org).
There are two APIC travel stipends to the 2015 APHA Annual Meeting in Chicago, Illinois:
. $1,250 APHA Conference Registration & Travel Stipend for a student or early career professional who has a
demonstrated track record of contributing to the health and health equity of Asian American & Native
Hawaiian Pacific Islander populations, 50 years and older, through research, community service, and/or
policy action.
. $1,250 APHA Conference Registration & Travel Stipend for a student or early career professional who has a
demonstrated track record of contributing to the health and health equity of persons of color, 50 years and
older, through research, community service, and/or policy action.
To select the two awardees, the Asian & Pacific Islander Caucus for Public Health to is collaborating with
APHAs Aging & Public Health Section and APHAs Equal Health Opportunity Committee to conduct
outreach, and participate in the selection process.
Eligibility:
All full time undergraduate and graduate (Masters or Doctoral) students (e.g., MPH, MS, MSW, JD, DrPH,
DSW, PhD, MD, etc), or early career professionals (within 1 year of graduating with their Masters or Doctoral
degree), working with Older Americans in Communities of Color, are encouraged to apply.

Requirements:
If selected, the Student(s) and/or Early Career Professional(s) must agree to the following:
1) Be willing to have your picture and name featured in news collateral and APHA websites as the
winner of a
2015 APIC Student/Early Career Professional APHA Travel Stipend.
2) Self-register for the APHA Conference at www.apha.org, and make own travel and
accommodation arrangements.
3)

Attend the APIC, Aging & Public Health & CHPPD Joint Session # 3133.1:

Ensuring a Healthy Future for Asian American and Pacific Islander American Older Adults, Monday,
November 2, 2015, 10:30-Noon

4) Be recognized at the APIC Students & Young Professionals Meet & Greet, Monday, Nov 2, 2015,
8-10 PM, Convention Center S106a
5) Write a 100 word blurb about the APHA experience for the Asian & Pacific Islander Caucus for
Public Health website (www.apicaucus.org) or the Aging & Public Health Section blog.
6) Submit APHA Meeting travel-related paperwork for reimbursement by November 15, 2015 to
StudentRep2@apicaucus.org.
Application Deadline: September 15, 2015

the Annual APHA Meeting and Exposition, please complete the attached application form and submit all
required items by 5 PM PST September 15, 2015.

To apply for the APIC student travel stipend to attend the 2015 American Public
Health Association Annual Meeting at the McCormick Place Convention Center in
Chicago, Illinois, email the following three items by 5 pm PST September 15,
2015 to the Asian & Pacific Islander Caucus for Public Health at
StudentRep2@apicaucus.org.

A <200-word essay about your demonstrated track record advancing the
health and health equity of Asian Americans and Native Hawaiian Pacific
Islanders and/or Persons of Color (50 years and older), through research,
community service, and/or policy action, and how attending the APHA
Convention will benefit your career development, and the community's
health and well-being, through Health in All Policies.

The two awardees will be notified by e-mail by October 1, 2015.
