Welcome to Room 3 !

I am Mrs. Kolakowski.
I have been teaching at St. Pius V
since 1981.
I got married here at St. Pius V
Church.
My daughters attended St Pius V
School, from K-8th grade and received
a great education.

Schedule
School starts at 8:00 am.
Roll is taken at 8:05 am. Children
need to be in class and in their seat
at this time.
Morning Prayer right after roll.
Recess is at 10:15 am. Need a small
healthy snack.
Eat and then play.

Sacraments
If your child is Catholic and has been
baptized, your child will be prepared
to receive:
the Sacraments of
Reconciliation,
and
Holy Eucharist .

Religion
The children use the
Christ Our Life book.
There are 2 important, mandatory
parent parent meetings regarding
the
sacraments.
Eucharist Retreat. Parents must be
cleared to help at the retreat. Many
are needed!

Religion Homework
Text book comes home once a week
to read together with an adult and
study.
Lesson reviews are on line at the
Christ Our Life website. Find the link

Addition and Subtraction facts


through 20
must be memorized.
Time tests given 3 times a week.
Adding and subtracting two digit
numbers with regrouping.
Adding and subtracting three digit
numbers with regrouping.

Telling time by hour, half hour, quarter hour


and 5 minute intervals

your child to read aloud to an adult.

Singing once a month with Mr. Yeiser,


and playing rhythm instruments.

Kids, Star reader Math and reading.

Uniforms
Uniforms must be clean, neat, fit properly,
and worn daily.
Vicki Marsha uniforms only.
Pants and shorts which have belt loops,
require a belt.
Shoes must be close -toed, have a rubber
sole,
tie, velcro, or buckle
Shoes for PE must cover foot for safety

Socks
Boys white socks must over ankle.
Girls white or navy blue socks must
come up past ankle.

Hair
Hair must be neat, and clean
following handbook guidelines:
Boys hair must be kept short/ not
touching neck , ears or eyebrows.
Girls hair must be kept out of face
with headband, pony tail,
barrettes, or clips.

Lunches
Lunches may be ordered by the 28th of
the previous month thru Unique Dining
either :

on line,

by phone,

or a written order form and


check
Sack lunches must be brought to school
by child as they arrive for the day.

Forgotten Lunches
If by mistake lunch wasnt ordered, or it
was forgotten, then the children will
share with one another.
Children offer to share and sit next to the
friend in need. They practice caring for
others.
Extra food is sent down to the orange tray
at the end of the table to share with
those who have need of it.

Absences
A written absent note is required upon
return. State days of absence and
reason for absence with parent or
guardians signature.
Child must be signed out in office, if
leaving before 3 pm.
Absence work is due in equal number of
days as days absent, with a maximum
of five
days if there was an
extended absence.

Tardies
School begins at 8:00 am.
Children in their seats by 8:05 bell,
then
roll is taken.
If not present, child is marked
absent.
If child arrives after 8:05am, they
are marked tardy and their card is
turned.
6 tardies result in an after school

Homework
Homework is written in the steno; it is to be
finished at home in 30 min. Then steno
signed. If it takes longer, let me know.
Cross out the unfinished part. As we
correct in class your child will feel,Uh oh! I
dont have all of it to correct. They will
wish they had concentrated and finished. If
it is a matter of being too difficult, write
that on the page, and I will differentiate
their homework or reteach it.

Homework continued
If something does not come home or an online program
does not work, please email me right away or call me at
school, so I can get on line and fix it or send an email to
everyone.
Spelling City homework needs to be completed weekly
by Friday, if it is a problem and your child does not have
a computer to use, then written assignments can be
substituted.
Christ Our Life interactive reviews, should be studied on
line near the end of the week. It is so much fun for the
children to do at home with you! If unable to do it, study
the chapter in the book and ask your child questions.

Behavior
Be active, cooperative members of our
class respecting everyones right to learn.
Positive reinforcement is used.
Marble jar / class activities.
Points earned as a table for cooperation ;
rewards given.
Daily sticker earned for good behavior,
that is 4,5,6, or 7; calendar is marked; 20
stickers earn a prize.

6 or7s earn a special prize.

Consequences
Reminders given, before names are moved.
Children have many opportunities every day to move back
up.
Time out and time on the line are earned for 1,2, or 3 s on
their calendar.
Detention may be given for having a 3 more than once in a
week.
Detention slip stapled in steno. Sign and return it the next
day.

1st through 8th grade parents may check


their students progress.
The scores of class work, tests, and projects
are on line for you to see.
Corrected papers in the white folders.
D or F papers, those with a percentage of
69% or lower, Redo and Redo papers, need
parent signature. Return in the white folder
or by the next Monday for a small amount
of extra credit.

school, or before school depending
on my duty schedule for the week.

Parent Volunteers
Please volunteer in the classroom.
To help in school you must be
fingerprinted and cleared by the Diocese
of Orange.
Safe Environment Certificate is also
required.
Once you fulfill this requirement, you
may attend field trips and help at parties
throughout your childs time in Catholic
School in our Diocese.

Volunteer Hours

40 hours of volunteer work


Quality time with your children.
Be a wonderful example of our faith in action .
Keep track of your own hours.
Hours must be signed off by the teacher or staff
member
Turn in hours to the bookkeeper in school office,
Attention Bookkeeeper.

Volunteers Needed
Technology station, or center group
during Reading and Math
Answer questions, as the teacher
works with a small group,
differentiating instruction.
Help with Art Projects, or Science or
Social Studies Projects.

Daycare is available before and / or after
school.
Regular afternoon daycare students must
always be signed out from Daycare.

Always have a book to read, Room 3 News,
flashcards, pencils, class assignments,
textbooks and Book It Books.

Book IT
For Book It any books from home or school
count. They can hear an adult read the book.
They can read part of a book and adult reads
part. They can read it by themselves or read it
aloud to someone.
6 books are required and a grade will be given.
One book report a month is required.
Awards earned and good grade if requirements
are met.
Satisfactory or Poor grade earned if less than 6
books are read a month.

Accelerated Reader (AR)


The children must read an AR book twice
before taking a test.
The first time they read it for enjoyment.
The second time read it for the important
facts: characters, setting, plot, details
ending
They sign the clipboard the first time they
read it and make one check
The second time they read it, they put a
second check and take the test.

Required to read 2 AR books and
pass 2 AR tests.
Test results will be printed out every
Thurs. in white folder.
You can tell books are AR if they have
a sticker and it gives ATOS BL _._.
1.7 means First grade seventh
month
2.3 means Second grade third month
