Movement/Health Lesson Plan Template

EDUC 240
Introduction to PE and Health for Elementary Teacher

Course Objective: Develop an integrated, age-appropriate Physical

Education lesson plan that incorporates state standards across
disciplines, has accommodations for children of varying ability and
motor development levels, effective assessment, and outlines the
aspects of a physical safe environment.
INTASC Standard: Standard #7: Planning for Instruction
The teacher plans instruction that supports every student in meeting
rigorous learning goals by drawing upon knowledge of content areas,
curriculum, cross-disciplinary skills, and pedagogy, as well as knowledge of
learners and the community context.

Title and Summary of Lesson:

Ball Tag
Children will play a game of tag with a twist. Instead of using hands to tag, the
children will use a ball. One child will be the tagger and the other children will
attempt to remain free of jail. If the ball tags a child, the child must report to jail.
The game will continue until only one child is left. The sole survivor will become the
new tagger.

State Standards Addressed (List and Describe):

3.1.1 Demonstrate mature fundamental locomotors and manipulative movement
skills with variations
Example: demonstrate variations of jumping (e.g. Vertical, horizontal) , and
throwing a ball ( e.g.2 hands, underhand, side arm)
3.1.3 Utilize manipulative equipment combined with movement skills to perform
specific sport skills.
Example: Use an appropriate size bat and demonstrate striking a ball that is tossed
by a partner; use a short handled paddle or racquet to strike a moving object (e.g.,
ball, shuttlecock/birdie,etc.); manipulate tinkling sticks in a rhythmic manner in a
dance
National Standards Addressed (List and Describe):

Standard 1: Students demonstrate competency in motor skills and movement

patterns needed to perform a variety of physical activities.
Standard 2: Students demonstrate an understanding of movement concepts,
principles, strategies, and tactics as they apply to the learning and performance of
physical activities.
Standard 3: Students participate regularly in physical activity.

Motor Development Concepts addressed (List and Describe):

Gross Motor Skills:
Running, Jumping, Throwing, Climbing, Crawling

Curriculum Integration:
Science will be integrated into the game. When in jail, students must create the
water cycle. In jail will be pictures of the different steps of the cycle. The student
must put the pictures together correctly.
Objectives:

Materials:
Ball
Images of the water cycle

Amount of Time Needed:

15-20 minutes depending on length of the game

Organizing/Grouping Students for Activity (Describe how you will group students):
The students do not need to be grouped. However, one child must begin as the
tagger. To chose who the first tagger will be, students will draw a number. I will
have written down a number. Whatever child choses the same number I had written
down will be the tagger.

Attention-Getter:
The teacher will get the students attention by asking questions about the water
cycle. Questions like where does rain come from? or What is the first step of the
water cycle? Next the teacher will explain why the water cycle is important in PE
today.

Procedure: (step by step)

Begin with attention-getter activity

Have students draw a number to determine first tagger

Once the tagger is chosen, explain rules of the game.

Identify the area of the jail and jail rules.

Instruct the students to begin playing on the whistle.

Assessment/Feedback:
The teacher will be able to asses the childrens understanding and competency of
the water cycle. The teacher must check childrens attempt to assess their ability to
recreate the water cycle.
