With the threat of rain imminent, Justin Lloyd, Alex Clubb, and their crews scrambled to prepare their cars
for practice. Unfortunately, they ran out of time.
Shortly after the track opened for practice, rain began to fall around the 1-mile clay oval, bringing a halt
to on-track activities. As the steady rain continued, ARCA Racing Series officials were forced to cancel the
remaining practice session, in addition to Menards Pole Qualifying. This resulted in the field being set on
2015 Owners Point Standings. This slated Clubb with the 15th starting position, while Lloyd was placed
20th on the starting grid.
Neither Carter 2 Motorsports drivers were able to practice in the limited practice time, creating an interesting afternoon for the team.
As the scheduled green flag approached, both drivers felt confident their cars could make a run at the
front throughout the race, if the rain decided to stop. Fortunately, the rain stopped, as ARCA Officials
determined the 1-mile clay oval would be ready int time for the scheduled start of the 100-lap event.
As the green flag dropped, Lloyd began to make his way to the front in his No. 40 Angry Angel Energy
Drink Chevrolet, while Clubb held is position to get a better handle on his No. 97 U.S. Bonding A. Clubb
Lawn Care & Landscaping Dodge. Both drivers were sticking to their strategy, until bad luck found Lloyd.
On Lap 34, Lloyd was exiting turn 2 as his engine suddenly erupted with smoke. Thinking quickly, he
pulled onto pit road for his crew to inspect the car. He quickly brought it to the attention of the pit crew.
After some inspection, it was confirmed his engine had blown up, as he was forced to drop out of the
race. He was credited with a 26th place finish.
Now carrying the lone banner for Carter 2 Motorsports, Clubb continued on in the race, with hopes of
improving his position, as the afternoon progressed.
Unfortunately, the race did not play into Clubbs strategy, as there was a long green flag run, following
Lloyds engine failure. This caused Clubb to lose two laps to the leaders, as all he could do was wait for
some type of luck come his way that would improve his position. Then, in the closing laps, he found some.
Just yards before taking the white flag, several leaders collided, causing a multi-car accident, that forcing
several drivers out of the race. Due to series rules, the race was given a Green-White-Checkered finish
attempt to determine a winner.
At the time of the caution, Clubb found himself in the 23rd position, and as the laps continued to tick off,
he slowly began to move up the leaderboard. When the race resumed, he had already moved up to 19th,
as he continued to climb the leaderboard.
By the time he took the checkered flag, he found himself in 17th, the best finish of his ARCA Racing
Series career.
Today was an amazing experience, Clubb said of finishing 17th. We started from the back after no
practice or qualifying due to the rain. It took us a little bit to get the car figured out, so we made a couple
of pit stops to loosen the car up. As we left pit road, the clutch master broke, so we had no clutch the last
half of the race. But it sure was fun to drive.
U.S. BONDING JOINS CARTER 2 MOTORSPORTS
Carter 2 Motorsports has announced U.S. Bonding has joined the team for this weekends race at the
DuQuoin State Fairgrounds.
We are excited to have U.S. Bonding on our car, team owner Roger Carter said. I have personally
worked with them over the years and I am proud to have them on one of our cars this weekend.
U.S. Bonding is a 24-hour bail bonds service, located in the Charlotte, North Carolina, area. They can be
found on Alex Clubbs No. 97 Dodge this weekend.
Dirt racing is all about strategy, Lloyd said of dirt racing. Especially with ARCAs current rules package
(The Ilmor 396 engine and the composite body), it gives a team like ours, that still runs the carburetor,
or Legacy engines, a chance to use strategy with tire management to get upfront and stay there.
Lloyd credits this to the Hoosier Racing Tires that the series utilizes for dirt races.
Hoosier brings a great tire of our dirt races, Lloyd stated. There is little falloff and they are a durable
tire. Several guys out here, including myself, are on two to three year old tires and we are still able to
hang with and compete with the leaders.
Better known for his short-track racing, Lloyd has only recorded two dirt starts in his ARCA competition,
as his first came in 2013 at the Illinois State Fairgrounds.
Driving the No. 40 Carter 2 Motorsports Dodge, he qualified 19th, struggling to get a handle on his
3,400-pound stock car on dirt. By the end of the race, he had fallen to 25th. In his mind, he calls that
race the Practice Race for his dirt racing career.
Sure, I was disappointed by the finish, Lloyd said. It took a good portion of the race to figure out the
car and how it reacts to the dirt. But once I found out what I could do with it, driving it was a blast!
After a two-year hiatus from the series, he returned to the ARCA dirt on August 23rd at the Illinois State
Fairgrounds. In that effort, Mother Nature forced him to sit out practice and qualifying due to heavy rain
showers. Therefore, his crew was forced to set-up his Chevrolet on guess-work to how the 1-mail ovel
would be when he finally could get on-track. Because the heavy rain cancelled qualifying, the afternoons starting lineup was based on current Owners Points, giving Lloyd the 20th starting spot.

Things happen in racing, Lloyd said of the failure. I was super disappointed, because I was looking
forward to getting some redemption from 2013, but that will have to wait for another year. We do have
DuQuoin next which I hear is just as fun as Springfield. So we will take our Angry Angel Energy Drink
Chevrolet there and have some fun.
THE MORRIS MISSILE READY FOR TAKEOFF AT DUQUOIN
The Morris Missile is locked, loaded, and ready for launch. Ready to be launched for 100-laps around
the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds, that is.
I love dirt racing, Clubb said of racing at DuQuoin. We had a good outing at Springfield, despite the
rain and losing the clutch. I am hoping that we can improve on my finish last time out.
He started his stint with the team, as an organization-wide shake up put him behind the wheel of the
No. 40 Aget Dustkop: Capture It. Filter It. Breathe It. Dodge at the Winchester Speedway on June 28th.
At Springfield, Clubb battled from a 15th starting spot through several accidents and a late-race melee,
as he took the checkered flag in the 17th position. His finish that afternoon was his career-best ARCA
Racing Series finish in his young ARCA career.
Rain washed out most of the on-track activities, as Clubb was given the 19th starting spot for the 200
lap event. After lining up 19th on the grid, Clubb began to experience issues as he went to fire up the
race car. As the race went to green, he quickly brought the car to the attention of his crew, as they discovered his engine suffered a severe mechanical issue. He was credited with 26th.
One would have been discouraged, but Clubb reset for launch two months later at the Illinois State
Fairgrounds.
At Springfield, Clubb battled from a 15th starting spot through several accidents and a late race melee
among the leaders, as he maneuvered his way to 17th by the checkered flag. His finish that afternoon
became his career-best finish in his young ARCA career.
Each time Clubb has stepped into a Carter 2 Motorsports race car, he has rocketed to a better finish
impressing spectators and gaining fans along the way.
Racing is meant to be fun, Clubb said. I try to have fun with our crew, drivers, and fans. Especially in
ARCA, it is NASCARs most grassroots racing and we have some of the greatest fans in sports.
From the first time he climbed behind the wheel, racing his
quarter midget at five years old in San Jose, California, Justin Lloyd has established himself as a winner. After going to
victory lane in that first race, the successes in quarter midgets
continued to build. He was unanimously voted Jr. Rookie of the
Year in 1998, when he was just six years old. He has accumulated over 150 feature wins, eight championships and nine
track records.
