Class: 3G (Stage 2 Class)

Date: August

Duration: 5 Lessons (30 minutes each) 2.5 hours

Key Learning Area: Religious Education

Lesson Topic: The Sacrament of the Eucharist - Jesus is with us

Recent Prior Experience (specific relevant concepts, skills and values the school students have experienced prior to this lesson):
Students are currently preparing for their first holy communion with their local parish, in conjunction with this we have begun looking at the importance of celebrations and
their impact on the community. The students have previously explored celebrations as being important parts of their lives and how this is linked with the Eucharist. The
students have explored that Eucharist is a central celebration to the catholic community as it unites us all as one. The students linked these concepts with celebrations
they have in their own lives that are important to their culture and identity. The students have also explored the four main parts of the mass (introductory rites, the liturgy of
the word, the liturgy of the Eucharist and the concluding rites). The students created a flow chart of the mass and what occurs during each of the four main parts, and
have gone into depth looking at the introductory rites and the liturgy of the word. Students have previously demonstrated awareness of the symbols (oil, water, bread,
wine, laying of hands, priest robes etc.) that are represented during the mass, and these were briefly touched upon in prior lessons, however they would benefit exploring
these throughout this unit.
