Dear Families & Students,

Welcome to our class. I know this will be a positive year for your
child as we go from good to great. We will be learning many exciting
things in third grade. We are here to give each student the tools to
make decisions in life and to prepare them for their college futures. I
will support and encourage your childs academic and social growth with
hard work, determination, and responsibility. Below is some important
information about our class:
Our school hours are 8:00 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. Drop-off begins at
7:45 a.m. Our tardy bell rings promptly at 8:10 a.m., so if you
arrive after this time please go to the office for a tardy pass.
All students will use a laptop in the classroom throughout the day
for assignments. Once issued, the laptops are for classroom use
only, and will not go home with students.
Students should have a planner or agenda. They will be given a
daily planner to write their homework on otherwise. It is their
responsibility to make sure parents initial it each day. I do this to
make sure parents are aware of the assigned homework daily.
It is the students responsibility to turn in their homework daily,
and late work will result in a percentage of their grade lost.
I use a few different ways to keep families up-to-date my
website: http://msdietz3.weebly.com, Remind app, and a weekly
newsletter that I will send home on Fridays to name a few.
Students are allowed to bring water only to drink in the
classroom. Please send your child to school with a water bottle or
two each day.

What I expect from your child

I expect the world from my students, mostly because I know

they have the ability to achieve anything. I will not tolerate any
distraction in the classroom that takes away from a childs learning.
Attendance and punctuality is a major key to success in the
classroom. Please come to class not only on time, but prepared and
ready to learn.
Classroom Management Expectations
In conjunction with a classroom behavior clip chart, I will be
implementing Class Dojo as a way to keep parents informed
throughout the school day. For the majority of my classroom
management though, I do use a progressive discipline policy with my
behavior chart.
Consequences:
If I see that the student has forgotten class and
school rules, there is a progressive discipline method that
will be followed. Depending on the action, certain steps
could be skipped.

The Progressive Discipline Method:

1. Warning
2. 5 minutes off of recess, name in behavior log, and a think
about it sheet
3. 10 minutes off of recess, name in behavior log, and think
about it sheet
4. Phone Call Home and name in behavior log
5. Send to principal and name in behavior log
Rewards:

In my classroom, I also give out rewards to students

who make good choices. I offer individual, group, and whole

class rewards. I also give out Warm Fuzzy bucks, which is

classroom money. Once a week students can deposit their
money in the bank to save for our monthly class auction. For
each Warm Fuzzy buck that they receive, they also will
contribute to the Warm Fuzzies jar that fills up towards a
classroom party.
Homework:
Homework is extremely important for students educational
success! Homework will be assigned to students every Monday
through Friday in order to reinforce the skills that have been
taught in class. Missing homework will result in losing Class Dojo
points and a Homework note to be signed and returned the next day.
Missing, late, or unfinished classwork may be sent home for
homework.
Although homework is subject to change periodically, following is a
typical schedule of weekly homework:
Monday- Reading Log (Due Friday), CKLA Skills, Math, and

Spelling
Tuesday- Reading Log, CKLA Skills, Math, and Spelling
Wednesday- Reading Log, CKLA Skills, Math, and Spelling
Thursday- Reading Log, CKLA Skills, Math, and Spelling
Friday- May have weekend homework if not finished in class,
and a spelling preview once we begin spelling.

*If homework is not completed on time, students will finish it

during recess or free time.
Homework Notes:
1st Strike: Homework note is taken home for a parent
signature.

2nd Strike: Homework note is taken home for a parent

signature.
3rd Strike: Homework note is taken home for a parent
signature and conference is requested to establish an
individual student homework plan.
*The student is allowed 3 Homework Notes per grading
period. The use of all three Homework Notes during the
grading period will affect the students citizenship grade.

Make-Up Work Policy:

Absent make-up work
Students will have three days from their return to class to
make up class work and homework.
Missing class practice and/or homework may be sent home
to be completed or finished during student free time.
Missing test assignments are only completed in class.
Missing test assignments may be completed during recess
and free schedule time.
Late assignments and homework:
Students will be marked down 10% per day the assignment is
late when not due to an absence.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this. I think that with
teamwork is vital to student success. Please email me if you have any
questions.
