Learning Studies Report

Semester 1, 2015
Student Reflective Comment
This semester has been a huge improvement for me since last year. My grades have improved to the point where
Im not failing any subjects, which I could not have said this time last year. I have set more time for study and, as a
result, have not had to extend assignment due dates. I have passed nearly all of my assignments, and am
succeeding overall in my subjects.
This semester, I have enjoyed Psychology and Media Studies. Although I only got a C- in the first test, I enjoy
Psychology because I am learning new and fun topics that I am finding really interesting. I am also enjoying Media
Studies because I like the assignments that we are doing, such as the Auteur theory and the Horror movie
assignments. I like these assignments because we get to produce a film to demonstrate our learning, rather than
essays, which I dont find particularly interesting.
After Year 12, I plan to go into Computer Science in university. This year, I am doing Mathematical Methods to be
able to achieve this. It is evident that this subject is my main priority, as I have been producing my best work in that
subject. I am still managing to prioritise my other subjects quite well though. I usually set specific times to complete
assignments in order to avoid overlapping assignments that are due at the same time with each other. This has
been working very well for me and I have managed to complete all my assignments before the due date.
Next semester, I am aiming to improve my Media Studies and English Communications grades. I need to set a little
bit more time in those subjects to be able to succeed in this, which I believe I will be able to do.

Learning Studies Teacher Comment

Dante, last year, you took it upon yourself to get extra assistance with understanding mathematical concepts. This
positive action to better prepare yourself for Mathematical Methods this year has undoubtedly impacted your
success in Year 12. The effort and thought that you are putting into your assignments, as well as the value that you
put on your results, is atypical of the approach to learning that you had adopted in previous years. It is a credit to
your improved attitude and focus towards learning, and your aspiration to achieve goals that you set yourself. You
have significantly developed over the past year as a learner and, to date, you havent turned back. Keep up this
motivated attitude towards learning and you will benefit not only in your school life, but also in life as a young
adult. Well done on a great first semester!

English Communications

Geetha Nair

The English Communications course is proceeding in accordance with the published Assessment Calendar. The semester grade
is based on three Text Productions and two Text Analyses and two Communication Study tasks. In the next Semester the Folio
(External Assessment), one Text Analysis and the final attempt for the Supervised Writing will be completed. Dante, this is the
last lap in our race. So, put your concerted effort into doing your best. Take advantage of the discussions in class, ask the questions
to clarify your doubts, hand in your work for draft checking and ensure that you have addressed all criteria in the rubric. Work
diligently and aim high.

Mathematical Methods

Vanessa Fay

Dante has shown great perseverance in his endeavour to master concepts which are complex and not usually readily grasped,
and this is evident in his consistent results over four Skills and Applications Tasks for Normal Distributions, Binomial Distributions,
Linear Programming and Matrices. He participates well with other students and works cooperatively in a group while practising
to achieve mastery of mathematical processes in classroom exercises. He utilises available class time advantageously, and works
conscientiously to cover the course concepts. He has developed discipline and determination in his acquisition and application
of mathematical skills, attending extra sessions reliably.

Media Studies

Marcus Roberts

The assessments for Media Studies in Semester 1 have been comprised of two exploration tasks and one production assignment,
with one more currently being completed. Dante has shown his understanding of television genres and character tropes through
the first Media Exploration assignment and was engaged with his foreign language horror film assignment, which led into the
current horror film production task. He is an enthusiastic member of his current group production assignment, working hard to
produce a creative short film and is a key member in the group. I suggest asking more questions and focusing more in class to
best tackle a theory-heavy Semester 2.

Psychology

Cat Stone

The current Psychology grade is composed of Topics 1-3 Examination, Group and Individual Investigations. Students are currently
preparing for the Topics 4-6 Examination and the Healthy Minds assignment. Students will complete two further Skills and
Application tasks during Term 3. Additionally a focus for Term 3 will be on Examination preparation. For Term 3, we suggest that
you continue to engage with class tasks and also begin revision and practice using the SASTA Revision Guide. Likewise, continuing
to aim for a high standard in your assignments by planning, drafting and proof reading is an achievable goal for you. Looking
forward to a productive Term 3.

Grade Descriptors
Final Stage 2 results will be provided through the SACE Certificate. The grades provided in the SACE Certificate include each overall
subject grade and an indication of how this grade is made up of the moderated school assessed grade (70%) and the external
assessment grade (30%). Detailed information on SACE Stage 2 assessment procedures can be found on the SACE Board website.
Grades of A+ to E- are used to describe the level of achievement for each subject in relation to the performance standards in the
appropriate subject outline. Subject outline documents that contain detailed performance standard statements for the subjects
that are relevant to this achievement report can also be found on the SACE Board website.

Development as a Self Directed Learner

At the ASMS, significant emphasis is placed on students developing their capacity as self directed learners. This is considered
within four constructs: motivation, efficacy, effort, and reflection.
Excellent Always displays constructs of self directed learning
Good Mostly displays constructs of self directed learning
Satisfactory Sometimes displays constructs of self directed learning
Partial Occasionally displays constructs of self directed learning
Minimal Rarely displays constructs of self directed learning
