Behavior and Discipline

Students will receive a weekly conduct mark on a behavior chart that is sent home every
Tuesday. A parent signature is requested.
If a student violates a classroom rule, he or she will receive a verbal warning and their name will
be placed on the board. With each additional warning that the student receives, a check will be
placed by his or her name on the board. When a student receives 2 checks by their name, they
will receive a demerit. Any additional behavioral infractions after that are additional demerits.
If a student receives a demerit, a note will be sent home to the parent indicating why the demerit
was received. The note must be returned with a parent signature. Students who receive more
than one demerit will be subject to consequences as outlined in the student handbook. Some
student behaviors warrant an automatic demerit, as outlined in the student handbook.
Names are erased from the board each day. Every day is a brand new day!
Students who are disruptive to the classroom environment on a regular basis will receive a note
or phone call home. A parent conference may be requested.
Students will receive rewards and incentives for good behavioral and academic performance.
Rewards will include positive praise, stickers, treats, and selecting prizes from the treasure box.

Grading Policy
Cumulative grades for each subject are made up of:
50% Daily Work
40% Tests and Quizzes
10% Homework
Students may also earn extra credit for assignments when available. Students may also complete
assignments, tests, or activities for diagnostic purposes only. Diagnostic grades are not
calculated into the students cumulative grade. They are only used to provide targeted
instruction.
Please check the GradeLink website to remain up to date on student class averages.
Attendance
Students are expected to be in class and on time every day. If a student is absent or tardy,
procedures are outlined in the student handbook. Make up work will be provided upon request.
Some participation assignments cannot be made up, but alternate assignments can be given in
their place.
Tuesday Folders
A folder containing important information will be sent home every Tuesday. One pocket is
labeled Keep and will include documents for information purposes only that do not have to be
returned to the school. The other pocket is labeled Return and will include documents that
must be signed or filled out and returned to the school. Students are required to bring the folder
back to school on Wednesday morning.
Tutorials
Tutorials for Math will be held on Wednesdays from 3:30pm to 4:30pm. Some students will be
individually invited to tutorials; however, tutorials are open to all students. Parents must pick up
their child promptly at 4:30pm.
Tutorials for other subjects may be arranged as needed.
Homework
Students will receive homework assignments throughout the week. Students are expected to turn
in homework the next school day unless otherwise directed. Homework is designed to reinforce
concepts already taught in class. Homework on any given day should not take more than 60
minutes to complete for all subjects combined. At times, students may bring home work to finish
that was not completed in class. This is not a homework assignment and is not included in the 60
minutes of homework.

Students are to read at least 15 minutes every day and document their reading in their home
reading log. The log requires a parent signature. The log will be turned in every two weeks and
will count as a homework grade for reading.
There is no homework on Fridays.
Projects
Students will be assigned projects throughout the year. Some projects will be more complex than
others. For each project, advance notice will be given to parents stating the purpose of the
project and the materials required. A rubric for grading will be provided. All projects will count
as a test grade.
Tests
Tests will be used to assess student mastery of taught objectives periodically. Students will be
given the date of the test and instructed to write down the date in their planner. Before each test,
students will be given the material that they should study in order to prepare. Students who fail a
test will be permitted to correct the test to earn a 70 in the grade book with a parent signature.
Students will be given a list of spelling words every Monday and will take a spelling test every
Friday, with the exception of some shortened weeks due to school holidays.
