NOTES

W O R S H I P

One of the aspects of Christians worshiping of God

is that part we simply call Thanksgiving. Youll recall
from reading in the Bible the many, many references
to the use of altars in worship. These altars were
places of sacrifice, used by the people of God as well
as those involved in pagan worship. For the pagans,
the sacrifices were to satisfy the gods. Their gods
were always angry and needed to be appeased,
to be fed. The worship of the Hebrews was entirely
different. Yahweh did not need to be fed. He was, after
all, the provider! There were several different kinds of
Israelite offerings, one of which was the thank offering.
In our Thanksgiving portion of worship, we are
acknowledging that all we have, life, health, resources,
everything, is a gift from God. As an expression of our
devotion and allegiance, we are returning a portion of
Gods gracious gift to us. We are not buying a gods
favor, we are engaging the living God out of our love
for the One who redeemed us and intercedes on our
behalf even as you read this. Best of all, we are in
His presence this morning. Dont miss whats really
happening as the offering plates are being passed.

MORE ON MADA
You are part of the journey! Hear about Gods work in
Madagascar from our Mission Team, and visiting Malagasy
friends! Join us for a light lunch after church at 12:10pm, in
King Parlor. Well share stories of the most recent trip, as
well as news of how the Biblical Entrepreneurship program
is flourishing in Mada.

RECYCLE YOUR BULLETIN

8:30am & 9:45am worshipers can help the church be better
stewards of our resources and environment by placing
this worship bulletin in one of our recycling stations as you
leave today.
There are two right outside the Sanctuary: one in the Grand
Hallway leading to the Edington Ministry Center, and one
across from the entrance to the Prayer Room. If youre in
Lee Fellowship Hall, look for one to the right of the exit as
you leave.
The bulletins are reused for the 11:00am worship service,
and recycled on Monday morning.
