Welcome!

Please use a pencil and crayons to decorate the blank side of your
childs bookmark. You can draw a picture of a book you like to read with
your child, write about story time at your house, or a favorite childhood
book of your own. This bookmark will be used all year long.
Please fill out the volunteer sheet and contact sheet (if you have not
e-mailed me) on the front table.

About Mrs. Stevens

This is my 8th year teaching. This is my third year


at Martell. I taught for five years in the West
Bloomfield School District.

I attended Wayne State University.

My husband and I have one son, Johnathan, and a


dog, Peanut.

I enjoy spending time with my family and friends,


traveling, and watching baseball.

Homework Log and Folders

Check every day and return to school. Sign the


homework log.

Students pack them check both pockets!

Send all money (book orders, lunch money, etc.)in


an envelope clearly marked with your childs
name, my name, and what the money is for. Loose
money makes it very difficult to manage.

Homework is practice to solidify a skill we
have learned that day.

your child has difficulty, please write me a note


so that I can review the concept with your child at
school.
Homework 3-4 days a week - return the next
day with his/her name at the top.

Books from our Classroom

Your child has the option to bring home a book


from our classroom four days a week.

Books must be returned in order for your child to


take a new book home. Lost or damaged books
will have to replaced, and the replacement fee
must be paid before your child will be able to
take new books home.

Snacks

We will have a nutritious snack each morning.


Please send healthy foods such as fresh fruit,
cut-up veggies, raisins, etc.

ALL SNACKS MUST BE PEANUT AND TREE


NUT-FREE!

Your child may bring a water bottle to school.


However, it must have a secure lid and be
washed at home daily.

Clothes and Weather

We have recess outdoors whenever it is possible.


Please dress your child accordingly.

In the winter months, your child will need a good


pair of snow pants, mittens/gloves, a hat, and
boots.

Please put your childs name on his/her coat,


boots, hat, gloves, lunch box, and other personal
items to ensure they do not get lost.

Birthday Celebrations

Birthday Books can be donated to our classroom


library.

If you would like to send in money in lieu of a


book, a donation will be made to a charity at the
end of the year from our class.

Summer birthdays are also celebrated in June.

Scholastic Book Club

Sent home regularly (every other month).

Make checks out to Scholastic Book Club. Include


the order form. Place orders in a sealed envelope
labeled with your childs name and Book Club
on it.

Field Trips

Curriculum-driven

Second grade classes will be taking field trips this


year. More information will follow when field
trip dates approach.
