Please provide written reflections regarding your areas of strength and areas needing improvement:
Use the headings: Professional Knowledge, Professional Practice and Professional Engagement.

Professional Knowledge (Strengths):

I believe I have a thorough understanding about how students learn and how to effectively sequence teaching (as seen
through my implementation of the 5E instructional model in History). I am very familiar with the Australian
Curriculum and have planned all learning activities with year level content descriptors in mind. I also use a Backward
Design approach when planning so that I always start with the learning outcomes and assessment in mind before I
begin designing learning activities.

Professional Knowledge (Needs Improvement):

I feel that I could try to expend myself further when implementing ICTs in my teaching I would like to use it to
expand the curriculum learning opportunities for my students (rather than just use it to engage). I hope to begin
differentiating by readiness more frequently (through the use of preassessments and tiering). I would also like to work
on not overloading my lessons so that time can be better managed and students (and me!) do not become
overwhelmed.

Professional Practice (Strengths):

I have tried a range of successful behavior management techniques, such as positive reinforcement, and am learning
what works best for me. I have extensive experience managing challenging behaviours, particularly when working
with students with disabilities. I have spent time outside of lessons preparing materials, resources, etc. to ensure that I
am as organized as possible and that activities transition smoothly. I have been using both formal and informal
assessment methods.

Professional Practice (Needs improvement):

I could improve at providing students with timely, relevant feedback. I would like to spend more time discussing
students work with them in order to help them progress towards their learning goals. I would also like to work
towards involving parents and carers in the education process.

Professional Engagement (Strengths):

I have been receiving and applying constructive feedback from my three mentor teachers and my university liaison. I
have made written notes based on this feedback so that I am able to constantly refer to them and remind myself what I
need to focus on and work towards. I have engaged in professional learning at staff meetings and on pupil free days,
as well as through research in my own time. I have been working with external professions (i.e. speech pathologists)
in order to broaden my knowledge and improve my practice, particularly when working with students with speech and
language difficulties.

Professional Practice (Needs improvement):

I feel that I could become more familiar with the National Professional Standards for Teachers so that I can continue
to improve my teaching. I could also be using more initiative in undertaking professional learning by approaching
other staff members or professionals.
