Goals
This course focuses on the design of
information systems.
Through current design and development
environments, students will be exposed to
a number of experiential learning elements
to assist with an understanding of the field
and the development of skills necessary to
design efective information systems.
The student will gain practical experience
in the modelling, design and construction
of an integrated prototype.
7
Students will
become prepared to be self-sufficient and self-motivated
information systems designers.
become aware of design as both a structured and unstructured
activity including the need to experiment and continually
explore emerging techniques and components.
gain the skills necessary for successful team work required for
such an inherently collaborative activity.
develop a practical knowledge of contemporary design and
development environments in which to implement information
systems solutions.
understand the architectures required to deliver high quality
information systems solutions.
8
Learning Objectives
have a deep understanding of systems design issues and
principles
understand and be conversant with the theoretical background
to user interaction design
have the skills to create both forms-based and natural user
interfaces demonstrating good user interaction design principles
understand and discuss contemporary information systems
architectures
have knowledge and be conversant with contemporary
information system development tools, components and
techniques

Peer Reviews
Peer reviews will be conducted for each
deliverable of the Group Assignment
These are compulsory.
Individually review the work done by
your group mates.
It is anonymous for your group mates.
However, if problems arise, we may
approach group members.
Teaching staf take these very seriously.
16
Peer Reviews
If we find that a group member is not
contributing to the assignment then we
will call a group meeting.
Marks may be changed (increased or
decreased, depending on how much
each group member contributed)
Therefore, be careful what you say in
your peer reviews, as if we find problems
between group members, your
comments may no longer remain
anonymous.
