Reflection1:

M103 Student Teacher Interactions in Mobile World

16th June 2014 Cohort 1 of 170@17 - the session was given by Ms. Sara
The session took place on DMC as usual. The main concept was to learn the tools and concepts of a
positive interaction that results into creating and sharing ideas.
What happened?
We learnt about creating and posting blogs. We also learnt about using social media such as twitter
and face book and what are the correct ways for using these methods. We watched several videos
that clarified the importance of these methods an how they became the main tool on teaching kids.
How did you feel about it? How do you feel about it now?
At the beginning I thought it is going to be boring, because I already know the concepts of using
mobile devices and social media.
Now I think that it is important to expand the knowledge especially that mobile world is a huge
updated field in which I can find new stuff everyday.
What went well?
Everything went well except I was nervous with my nearly died battery in the iPad. But a colleague
helped me with a charger. Otherwise the session kept improving on its enjoyments and I really got to
know a lot of new ideas about how to get benefit of using social media on the class.
What did you learn from this experience?
I learnt that I should not judge the session from the first one hour. Even if there is something that I
already know, definitely there will be some new stuff that I have to use and will add a value to my
class.
What would you do differently next time?
Next time and if I attended such sessions I will make sure that I bring my charger. I also want to
share my ideas and my previous experience.

Reflection 2: M102 Mobile Devices in Education

6th November 2014 Cohort 1 of 170@17 - the session was given by Ms. Sara
The session took place on DMC. The main concept was give further ideas about the mobile
interaction and how to better use it in the class.
What happened?
The session supposed to be in two parts, but I missed the second one due to my medical
circumstances. The session included different tasks and deep discussions. Most of us shared our
ideas even informally between each other. We have been divided into groups. I usually work with
my colleagues from RAKC but that was the first time to work differently.
How did you feel about it? How do you feel about it now?
At the beginning I did not want to work with a different group. But now I understand that it is
much better to always work with different people so we can discover and share new ideas.
What went well?
The session was very useful and informative. I was able to get along with the new group and
discuss with them as if I already did before.
What did you learn from this experience?
From this experience I learnt that working with the same people will not improve my skills
especially if we all are from the same age and having the same experience.
What would you do differently next time?
Next time I will make sure that I do not hesitate to work with new people. It is even better to ask
for it by myself. I will also take notes all the time because our informal discussions are always
beneficial and can add value for me.

Reflection3: M101 iPads in Classroom

27th November 2014 Cohort 1 of 170@17 - the session was given by Ms. Sara
The session took place on DMC. The main concept was to learn about ios7 and its applications
KeyNote, iMocie and Pages.
What happened?
The session was very important for me a I had no idea about using iPads. The applications were
easier for me because they are very similar to Microsoft Office programs. However, suing ios7
and changing its setting was a little bit confusing as I used to use Android. In general the session
was my first towards using Apple which I found more applicable than windows.
How did you feel about it? How do you feel about it now?
I was not interesting at the beginning because I felt that I will need time to change windows
which I was using fro long years. Now I totally know how Apple has more options and
capabilities that I can use in classroom and make my session more interesting with it.
What went well?
The session went well for me because I was new to the iPad world. I learnt many things and I
got encouraged to use Apple devices.
What did you learn from this experience?
From this experience I learnt to not get stuck with one method. I have to search and learn about
different technologies.
What would you do differently next time?
Next time I want to make sure that I have a general idea about the topic of the session so I do not
feel over confused about it. it is also important to ask about the tools that the trainer did not
mention.

Reflection 4: Epigeum 104 Understanding the Principles of Course Design
7th July 2014 Cohort 1 of 170@17 - Online course uploaded on BB Learn by Ms. Sara
This online course was important to Identify the context of the course that I am teaching and its
design to e able to teach it correctly especially in terms of creating assessments and giving
feedback to students.
What happened?
First I felt that I cannot read all of that amount. The course was heavy despite its simple
vocabularies but at that time I was not reading that much of English contents. I also did not like
the quizzes that were at the end of each chapter. Later I started realizing the importance of the
content and how I can really benefit from it to enrich by career.
How did you feel about it? How do you feel about it now?
At the beginning I did not want to work with a different group. But now I understand that it is
much better to always work with different people so we can discover and share new ideas.
What went well?
The course was very heavy, yet very informative and useful. Honestly it got me back to reading
and enjoying such contents more than reading stories.
What did you learn from this experience?
From this experience I learnt that developing my teaching skills cannot be done through practical
sessions only but also through the online courses. Even if takes me long hours I have to learn it.
What would you do differently next time?
Next time I will make sure that I follow the concepts of the course because it is available online
and even if it was removed I can ask for retaking it. I also will make sure that I save screenshots
for the most important parts of the course to refer to them whenever needed.

Reflection 5: Epigeum 104 Understanding the Principles of Course Design
25th November 2014 Cohort 1 of 170@17 - face to face training session at RAK Womens
College given by Edtech Saeed Alhebsi and Mahra Alzaabi. The session was about learning the
basic concepts of using blackboard.
What happened?
The trainer showed the basic concepts of how to use the BB Learn and most importantly how
to create assessments and how to troubleshoot the issues of BB Learn. The session was very
important for me especially that I did not use BB Learn that much when I was a student.
How did you feel about it? How do you feel about it now?
I was confused at the beginning. It is totally different when using tools as an instructor not as a
student. Now I feel that I can do many things in BB Learn not only assessments. I also have the
courage to discover other technologies and applications rather than BB Learn.
What went well?
Everything went well even with the mistakes I made because they got me to know the correct
steps to do them. I also loved creating assessments on BB Learn to save time and effort.
What did you learn from this experience?
From this experience I learnt that I should not depend on the paper based exams. There are
different ways to make the exam easier, yet challenging and easier to mark. I also learnt that
Edtech Department is always available to offer help and support.
What would you do differently next time?

Next time I want to ask about every single tool in the application that I am using. Even if I am
not going to use them now, maybe in the future I will. I also learnt that I have to navigate and
search for different tools and tricks by myself.

Reflection 6: Learning By Doing Session
4th March 2015- This session was the most interesting so far in the 170@17 training. The
session was about the concepts of learning by doing and how to apply it in a correct way.
The session was for 170@17 trainees /cohort 1 & 2 and given by Ms. Lina, it took place on
DMC Library.
What happened?
The session starts with a cards game then moved to include different practical tasks such as
the collaborative presentations and padlet as well as writing a reflection about the
experience. We also had discussions about what is the real meaning of Learning By doing.
the trainer showed us a very interesting video about this topic as well.
How did you feel about it? How do you feel about it now?
I was enjoying it all the time. The session broke the routine that we got used with as well as
teaching me how I really can make my students learn by practical tasks. Now I am feeling
more excited as I improved my teaching skills and I can conduct a practical session in a
better way.
What went well?
Everything went well during the session and I think everybody was enjoying it. we shared
ideas in a very fun way. Even those how were feeling boring at the beginning, they got
excited after a while and were actively involving in the discussions.
What did you learn from this experience?
From this experience I learnt that learning by doing is not only applying concepts but there
are several emotional concepts and responsibilities that I have to take in order to apply the
learning by doing method on its correct way.
What would you do differently next time?

Next time I want to make sure that I get my practical session fun and enjoyable as much as
how I had it in that session especially in terms of the used technology. I also have to take
notes because I forgot a lot of points that was displayed during the session.

Reflection7: Epigeum 102 Making the Most of Discussion

23rd October 2014 Cohort 1 of 170@17 - Online course uploaded on BB Learn by Ms. Sara
The course is about how to make discussion in the class, its advantages and disadvantages,
how to control and assist students and how to evaluate such method.
What happened?
The course was very interesting despite feeling that it was more difficult on its
terminologies than the previous epigeum. I did not have that much opportunities to run
discussions on my classes but this course encouraged me to do and it gave me very deep
information about the nature of the discussions. The role of the instructor was the most
attractive part as it taught me that I should not keep silent but I have to involve and
encourage students and get them involved in the discussion.
How did you feel about it? How do you feel about it now?
Despite having difficulties on reading , the course was interesting and changed a lot on my
teaching methods. At the beginning and while reading I thought that my students will not
be able to accept such methods but when I tried it with them they really liked it and enjoyed
it as well. Now I can see the importance of running discussion not only for changing the
routine but also to improve students speaking skills and enriching their knowledge.
What went well?
It went well for me. I finished the course and have a huge amount of information as well as
new vocabularies that I did not know before.
What did you learn from this experience?
I learnt that teachers have a much more roles in class rather than giving instructions. I also
learnt that sometimes I have to be one of the students and set with them to get them
encouraged rather than standing in front of the class and listen to them.

What would you do differently next time?

Next time, I will make sure to take the quizzes of the course directly to not forget the
information that I read. I also want to record the discussion sessions (if students accept)
that I run to refer to the and correct my mistakes

Reflection8: M106 Creating Course in iTunes U

10th February 2014 Cohort 1 of 170@17 - the session was given by Ms. Sara
The session took place on DMC. The main concept was to learn how to use iTunes U for the
course that I am teaching.
What happened?
We all have registered in iTunes U using our Apple devices. That was another area for me. I
liked the idea of publishing a course in iTunes U in which everybody can have access to.
Each one of us tried applying the tasks by converting the course that we teach into iTunes U.
I did that for CID 2013 Security Fundamentals Course.
How did you feel about it? How do you feel about it now?
I though it would be difficult but then it was so easy. The only thing that we need to wor
more is the formatting of the pages other wise it was all a matter of copy and paste. Now I
think the iTunes would be more attractive for students than BB Learn which makes me of
really converting the course towards iTunes U.
What went well?
Everything went well except that there are some tools that I was not able to accomplish
through iPad which required me to take them as a homework.
What did you learn from this experience?
I learnt that I should not judge the session from the first one hour. Even if there I learnt that
Apple has thousands of applications and facilities that I still need to search and discover. It
is important to make the course easier by the different applications and technologies.
What would you do differently next time?
Next time I have to make sure that I bring the laptop and the iPad together because it is
better to fulfill the tasks during the session and not taking them as a a home work.

Reflection 9: Creating a Mahara ePortfolio
6th May 2015 Cohort 1 of 170@17 - the session was given by Ms. Christine Lampe
The session took place on DMC. The main concept was to learn how to create an ePortfolio using
Mahara.
What happened?
We all registered in Mahara site using our college ID and password. We had an issue at the
beginning in which the ID and passwords were not working , but he trainer solved that problem.
She introduced us ti the topics and pages that we need to create. We strated with the easier part
which is the profile. The session was mainly to gather all the things that we did for the 170@17
session.
How did you feel about it? How do you feel about it now?
I like creating portfolios that is why I was excited, but Mahara was not that much attractive for
me. I felt it was confusing and I did not like its layout. Now I understand the importance of an e-
portfolio and Mahara looked boring because it was professional.
What went well?
We started very well. For me I included a huge amount of information. I finshed the profile and
started uploading the certificate as well.
What did you learn from this experience?
I learnt how profiles must be professional and organized. The type of profiles that we used to
create at school and college cannot be tha same once we are employees.
What would you do differently next time?
Next time I have to make sure that I save the files with proper names and in organized folders
because I faced issued while I was looking for the files to upload in Mahara.

Reflection 10: Epigeum Marking and Giving Feedback

6th June 2015 Cohort 1 of 170@17 - Online course uploaded on BB Learn by Ms. Sara-
The course is about how to give an effective feedback to students and what are the main
characteristics that must be available in the feedback so students can benefit from and
improve their academic levels based on.
What happened?
The course was easy to understand and included real examples in which I realized the
mistakes that I make on giving feedback to my students. I also learnt the main concepts
that I have to follow while writing or giving comments for students so they can take and
work on their mistakes.
How did you feel about it? How do you feel about it now?
From the beginning I was aware that I am going to learn a very important topic but I did
not expect that I am going to discover all of that mistakes that I already do in my course.
Now I understand that it is important to keep asking other experts about actions that I
take because I am still new and for sure I am going to make a lot of mistakes.
What went well?
The course was great and informative. It changed a lot of the strategies that I follow on
my course.
What did you learn from this experience?
From this course I learn the correct way of writing or saying comments. I also learn
different vocabularies that I can use while giving feedback.
What would you do differently next time?
Next time I am going to print the comments that I post on portal an compare them with
the examples given in the epigeum to know my mistakes. One of the main concept that I

want to apply is that I have to make my feedback prompt instead of waiting tell the end
of the semester.
