Please read the article posted under Course Materials on Bb titled: Do Nice Patients
Receive Better Care? and respond to the following questions. Remember there
are no right/wrong answers give thought to your answers!
1. After reading the article how do you define a nice patient?

2. After reading the article how do you define better care? Answer this
question from the perspective of a radiologic technologist.

3. Healthcare has become a consumer commodity something patients can

shop around for. For example a patient in Hamden can go to one of three
different imaging facilities all in the same area. Customer service is vital to
attract and retain patients at imaging centers. With this in mind as you enter
the clinical setting to provide patient care do you think your treatment of
a nice patient (based on your answer to number 1) would be
different than to another type of patient? Why or why not? Should it be
different? Please explain.

4. Attracting and retaining patients is vital to the survival of any imaging facility,
especially outpatient facilities. For question 2 you defined better care. Is it
not the right of all patients to receive the BEST care? Does this
occur in all imaging centers for all patients? Why or why not? Would
the level of better care change if it was tied to compensation for the
technologist (i.e. number of repeated radiographs deducted from
pay)? How would you make sure all patients received the BEST care
if you were the manager of a facility?
