Recording Engineer
Salary: $30,000 - $70,000 a year (for experienced engineers)
Education Requirements: Most sound engineers have received training at vocational
schools, community colleges or 4-year colleges and universities. Undergraduate majors for
sound engineers include audio technology, broadcast technology or music production,
according to the Audio Engineering Society (www.aes.org). Sound engineers often hone
their skills in student and community productions before being hired as salaried or freelance
sound engineering technicians.

Engineering Tech
Salary: Those just starting out may earn as little as $25,000 a year, while senior engineering
techs at large companies can make $80,000 a year, or more.
Education Requirements: To become an engineering tech, students must usually complete
a 1 to 3-year program in engineering technology. Programs for engineering technologists
tend to be a little longer than those that train technicians. Graduates of technologist
programs have a broader knowledge base, which allows them to perform a wider range of
tasks.
