Stats Project 1

Simple Sample
Data collected on the end of year funds
remaining from 30 random Civil Rights
and Liberties Charities, collected using a
random number generator set between 16,163. (the total number of charities in
that category.)
Problems:
Because the master list was so large, 30
items do not make up a representative
sample of the population, and presented
2 major outliers from large organizations,
one extremely high and the other,
extremely low, as represented in this box
and whiskers diagram

Simple Random-Histogram
Once again, outliers are clearly represented in the first and last category of
histogram, and a 7 category restriction bulked most of the data in the $-164k38K class.
Although the data is not normally distributed with a slight right skew, it
might be more normal without the major outliers, and maintain the right
skew, because it represents positive numbers.

Cluster Sample: M&Ms: Bar Chart

Data pulled from a bag 0f 53
regular M&Ms and a 53 Peanut
M&Ms (collected from a larger bag)
The graph shows the greatest
disparity between the yellow M&M
count in each bag, interestingly,
the regular M&Ms had no mode,
but the Peanut had a mode of 11,
present in the blue, green and
orange categories

Number of Surgeries performed at

Intermountain Healthcare Center (Sandy)
between 9/14/2015 and 9/20/2014
Line Graph
Line graph demonstrates the
number of surgeries throughout
a week period, starting on
Monday the 14th and ending
Sunday the 17th
Chart demonstrates highs on
Monday, Tuesday and Friday,
with a slight dip in the middle of
the week and, as one might
expect, low numbers during the
weekend.

Time Series: Line Graph Comparison

This graph compares the
number of scheduled
surgeries with the number of
performed surgeries
throughout the week. Each
day had an number of
surgeries performed than
scheduled, and an average of
2.6 more surgeries per day.
Data high point is on Wed.
(9/17) with 7 more surgeries
than scheduled.

Matched Pairs Experiment: Ruler- Left v.

Right hand
To perform my experiment, I had
my dad drop a ruler from one
hand to the other 60 times. (30
on each side). I recorded the
length where the ruler was
caught in each hand and moved
my data into excel.
I have made the following charts
to demonstrate my results.

Histogram Comparison
*Experiment: Ruler
experiment. 60 data points
are compared within two
different charts.
I have included a few graphs
to demonstrate my results.
First: Histogram: One for the
left and one for the right. My
father is Right-handed. It is
interesting that the Righthand chart looks more like a
normal distribution.

Box and Whisker

You can see in the box and whisker plot that the average length at which the ruler was caught is similar in
plot
both hands.
However, you can also see that the Left side has more outliers on both sides of the spectrum.

Time Series- Gas Prices from 9/10 to 9/21,

2015
I tracked the price of Regular gas
from 9/10/2015 until 9/21/2015 at
a single gas station close to my
home. The data I collected is very
closely related to Utahs average
price for regular fuel at $2.74.
