Rose for Emily

- Rose for Emily because rose is a symbol of love and marriage and it is used a
strange marriage between Homer Barron and Emily Grierson.
- the story is about Emily being one of the last Griersons and her being able to cope
with life when her father died. She poisoned her friend, Homer Barron, to keep
her company.
Symbolism
- Emily represents southern traditions

Emily was born during the civil war and Colonel Sartoris and
Judge Stevens are said to be more understanding (southern
traditions) than the new generations
CONFLICT: Perception vs. Reality
- perception in which people think Emily is good and all that but actually, it is wrong
because in reality, that model figure is not truly what it is.
Exposition
- At Emily Griersons funeral, the people talk about the things that happened during
Jefferson, Mississipi and the war
Complication
- Started when the new generation of mayors came and asked Emily for taxes.
Climax
- Happens when Emily buys arsenic
Falling Action
- When the people barged into Emilys house and found Homer Barron
Irony in the story:
Because Emily is thought to be a figure in the state, she is actually not perfect. She has
secrets that are not what people think it is.
Point of View: Third Person
Faith, Love, Time and Dr. Lazaro
- this is about a doctor, Dr. Lazaro, who does not believe in faith because most of
the time, his patients die so he lost faith. His son is Ben, who wants to be a priest.
IRONY: Doctor and Lazarus -> He was brought up from the dead.
Complication:
- He is getting disheartened with his work when he sees so many people dying.
Climax:

Doctor tries to save the baby from tetanus <- cannot move

Resolution:
- Doctor realizes that his love and time are already gone because of his disheartedness
and all.
