The10gradestudentsIinterviewedwereambivalentabouttheprospectofanallonlinecourse.Theywere
intriguedbythenoveltyoftheidea.Onestudentsaidthatshecouldperhapsfocusonthecontentbetterwithout
thedistractionsofpeersinatraditionalclassroom.Theotherstudentexpressedtheoppositeconcernthatthe
presenceoftheInternetwithoutsupervisionwouldbeaconstanttemptationtodistraction.
BothstudentssaidthattheyusetheInternetmostoftenforsocialnetworkingpurposes.Onestudentalso
mentionedonlinemusicandgamesservices.Bothstudentsexpressedaconcernthattheymightnotbeableto
acquirethenecessaryguidanceforsuccessfulcompletionofprojects.
Fromtheseinterviews,Iinfertheextremeimportanceofprovidingsufficientsupports,guidance,andclarityof
objectivesforonlinelearners.Forthestudentwhowouldhaveadifficulttimeavoidingonlinedistractions(and
otherslikeher),Imightconsiderbeginningtheprogramwithlessonsintimemanagementstrategiesand
peersupportstructures.

similarinlook,feel,andinterface.
