BIOSORPTION/BIOACCUMULATION OF HEAVY METALS

j. ondruschka : th. Bley 2000

International symposium on marine biotechnology, ancol, Jakarta, 29-31 may 2000
Results:
Biomass is low-valuable product which is can be explore to another process such as,
bioremediation for heavy metal (Co, Cd, Cu, Ni, and Mn). The biosorptions are take
from Penicillium, Saccharomyces, trichoderma reesii, methylobacter.
Methods
Using biomass (0.5-8 gram dry weight/L) shaking and centrifuged for 0.5-6 hours.
Analyses using CADAS-spectrophotometer.
Living cells of biomass is more effective than the non-living. The concentration
effectively < 100 mg/L of solution. Penicillium is more effective to remove Ag =
Next project, using biosorption plate to trap heavy metal from salt water to purity
the salt production. As we know Indonesian is the most larges archipelago country
which has very large coastal area. But in Indonesia the salt quality is very low. This
affect by the heavy metal which contained in the salt. Heavy metals could
contained in the salt because the refinery is not complete. in practice, the salt
farmers in Indonesia just sediments the salt water in one step. More step is needed
to purity the salt. Because the time and the process need very long time, is not
efficient to farmer.
Beside that, (kebutuhan) salt from industry is very crucial. So the industry import
the salt from the other country which has more purity salt.
