Genre Analysis
Time causes for change and advancement and Im sure weve all
realized that times have changed and the things we once knew has
advanced. Songs have changed, the media has changed, society has
changed, and even the way we communicate has changed over the course of
time. If we think about the ways we used to do things and handle situations
and we compare those times to the way we handle situations in todays
society, the change practically jumps out and hits you in the face. Meetings
turned into emails, phone calls turned into text messages, going to the
stores turned into online shopping, and social media just became an
evolution within itself.
If you were to ask ten different people to define social media, I
guarantee you would get ten completely different answers. But when it
comes down to it, social media is currently the most used form of electronic
communication. At one point social media was only used as a way of
interacting without actually interacting with another individual. Friends and
family would use this form of communication to stay in touch over a

distance, talk, and remain interactive with one another. Think back to the
time of the early 2000s when we only used Hotmail, Yahoo Messenger, and
even a little Myspace. All of those sites were used as a form of
communication and staying in touch with one another. But compare those
older sites to the current sites of todays society. Facebook, Twitter,
Snapchat, and Instagram are completely different than those older websites.
While all these forms of social media are still used as forms of
communication and interaction with one another, the way we communicate
and interact on these sites have evolved and advanced. The older sites
focused more on the communication but social media in todays society has
become more than communication and interaction. Todays social media has
become a place for debates, advertisements, weekly updates on the hottest
celebrities, where you see the latest drama, and a place to bash, uplift,
criticize, and encourage other individuals. Social media became an evolution
that happened right in front of our faces without us even seeing it
happening.
