The researchers counted the vehicles that are crossing in Mabini
Sangandaan Intersection. They recorded the number of the vehicles crossed
from the start of the operation hours, during peak hour operation and until the end of the operation of the intersection. They tabulated and separated the vehicles based on its type to determine which vehicle has the most contribution in the traffic volume in Mabini Sangandaan Intersection. For this study, data collection from different agencies, which have jurisdiction over the Mabini Sangandaan Intersection, was used as the main data gathering instrument. These agencies include Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and Caloocan City Hall. These data are the traffic flow in Mabini Sangandaan Intersection for the past ten (10) years when there is no SM Sangandaan existing. The data collected by the researchers when the SM Sangandaan is operating are then compared from the existing data 10 years ago to determine the difference between the intersections operations. The researchers also observed the people that are participating in the operation of the Sangandaan intersection such as the drivers, pedestrians, sidewalk vendors, SM sangandaan customers and traffic enforcer. The observation is done by capturing pictures or videos of the movement of vehicles from time to time in different angles and the vehicles that are going in and out in the establishment at the intersection. Its possible to determine the conflicting movement of vehicles, as well as its relationship to the
obstruction on the road such as pedestrians. This observation was used as
the secondary data-gathering instrument for the study. The observations provide data that can be useful in determining the real problem for the intersection. This research instrument contains documentation of this study and evidence that the researchers conducted the observation at the intersection.
