The United Nation Open Session on Friday, October 2nd 2015 will convene to discuss the

present issue of
Universal Access to Water
.
Issue Brief:
In the last few weeks there have been major developments around the world that impact
access to clean water.
In China, a major industrial plant has begun dumping chemicals into chemical holding
ponds outside of the major cities. This waste is produced from state sponsored
technology factories and the chemical ponds seem to be leaking into the ground and
into wells of nearby homes.
A city outside of Detroit, Michigan has purchased water rights to one of the great lakes.
While switching water sources, the town got its water from a source with very high
levels of lead. This has caused lead poisoning and birth defects in children in the area.
A international corporation has purchased all of the water rights to three major rivers in
Nigeria. People caught taking water from these rivers are being fined or asked to pay
the company for the water that they use.
The Rio Grande at the border of Mexico and the USA is one of the most polluted rivers
in the world. Three men have died from exposure to the water. Neither the United
States or Mexico want to clean the river, and think that it is the other countrys
responsibility.
At the UN Open Session the present countries must discuss and decide:
Should corporations be allowed to pollute water or purchase water rights from governments.
Who is responsible for the water after the water has been polluted or sold?
All Nations are asked to bring a statement from their country as well as their vote to the open
session on Friday.

The United Nation Open Session on Friday, October 2nd 2015 will convene to discuss the
present issue of
Refugees During Times of War
.
Issue Brief:
In the last few weeks there have been major developments around the world that impact
feelings about war refugees.
Over 3.8 million Syrian people have left their country because of ongoing conflict in their
country. Close countries such as Turkey, and Greece have taken in some refugees, but
now are overwhelmed and can not support the number of people.
Refugees from Afghanistan are also migrating to Europe for a better chance at life, even
though the current situation in Afghanistan is more peaceful than Syria.
Many people from Honduras and Central America have migrated to the United States
because of ongoing drug and gang violence in their native countries. President Obama
issued a decree allowing some refugees to stay in the country in detainment centers
before being processed for entry into the United States.
Hungary has recently closed its borders to anyone traveling from Syria to prevent more
refugees from coming into the countries without proper paperwork. More than half of
these refugees are children.
At the UN Open Session the present countries must discuss and decide:
Should countries be required to take refugees from other countries in times of war?
All Nations are asked to bring a statement from their country as well as their vote to the open
session on Friday.
