The document discusses teaching speaking and vocabulary skills to students. It describes several hands-on activities used in lessons, including a puzzle game to introduce a topic, speaking cards to share ideas, and a student presentation about machines using a digital presentation. These activities engaged students and helped teach vocabulary. Applying "learning by doing" through hands-on work was effective for motivating students. The summary concludes that providing opportunities for students to learn through doing activities helps build their skills while also cultivating important 21st century skills.

Teaching Speaking and Vocabulary (Learning by Doing)
(Oct 9th 13th 2014)
After doing many observations to enhance myself in teaching the four skills, I think I became more confident about teaching them. Thus, my focus for this week was to teach speaking and vocabulary to test how I got the basic skills for teaching it. According to the previous lessons that I have taught, I have discovered that learners find games and activities that require movement interesting. For that reason, I created the puzzle game to introduce the lesson of Self-Reliance and to make the lesson more motivating. In fact, this activity raised students awareness of the topic as they had to rearrange the picture to reveal the topic of the lesson. In addition, students need opportunities in the classroom to speak and share ideas, so I included different activities that requires students to speak in the context of the lesson. To be specify, the speaking cards were effective as learners were able to share ideas and express their opinions. Also, asking questions about a picture stimulated them to speak and react to the questions. Another goal to involve in my teaching was to apply Learning by Doing in the different activities. Applying learning by doing was through asking students to do a little presentation about a machine. I was really surprised with the outcomes of this activity since learners were very focused and motivated to create a keynote presentation about a machine they chose. Students created nice presentations and they presented them as well. The advantages of this this activity was that learners were able to listen to descriptions of various machines. Bedsides that, 21st century skills were included in the lesson, such as collaborative and communicative skills, critical and creative thinking, technology literacy and leadership and initiative.

Finally, offering an environment where students can learn by doing is a
good way to help them build their skills by themselves. Whats more, it is crucial to bear in mind the importance of including the 21 st century skills to prepare learners for 21st century workplace.
