As the building principal it is very imperative, that the school

building is kept clean at all times to ensure a healthy &
conductive environment that is suitable and confortable for
teaching and learning. According to the planning guide for
maintaining school facilities chapter 5, There are two main
goals for maintaining and keeping the school building clean.
1. To convey strategies for planning and implementation
best practices for maintaining facilitate school building
and grounds.
2. Preventive maintenance: An ounce of prevention is
worth a pound of care.

A focus on preventive maintenance in other to keep a

clean building is going to be my concentration for the
purpose of this paper, because it will be more cost
effective to implement preventive maintenance than to
solve a problem that will be created by lack of
maintenance and proper care of the school building.
Here are the strategies that I will implement as a
Principal to keep a clean school building and clean
grounds.

* Cleaning the building every day and night: Both inside

and outside of the building will be cleaned during the
school hours and after school by the custodians staff.
*Using the custodian manager: I will implore the
custodians manager to constantly monitor the cleaning
of the school building.
*Supervisory roles: I will have a staff who will also be a
volunteer to supervise the cleaning of the building.
*Using the pick & trash strategy. This strategy is very
helpful and has no cost to it just like the name connotes,
it involves the practice of awareness of dirt around you,
then you pick it and put in the trash can.
Students are constantly reminded to practice this every
day and every Friday, for two minutes the bell goes for
everybody to stop everything they are doing and pick
and trash.

* Hands off the walls: This is another good strategy

that will involve reminders for the students and staff to
keep off the school building walls, by using posters and
constant reminders too. Posters that remind &
encourage people (both teachers and students to keep
the school clean.
*In- stilling & maintaining the cleaning culture in the
students and
teachers: Reminders about keeping inside the school
& school

premises clean at all times, by

showing some videos in the library and instructional

speech /talk on the importance of keeping the school
building and grounds clean.
*Establish students committee that will help enforce
clean school

environment.

*To constantly monitor the students activities in class to

minimize

dirty classrooms and maintain clean classroom

environment.
*Routinely give incentives to classrooms that maintain
1st, 2nd & 3rd
positions in cleanness. Such as pizza party or pass out
stickers.
All these measure, enumerated are strategies and measures I
will implore to maintain a clean school environment and clean
grounds.
Lets look at the two scenarios, one is a well maintained
school building that all these strategies are routinely
implemented on and the other is a school building that has the
regular daily general cleaning without these other strategies
being implemented. Which of these two buildings do you think
will have the best clean school building? Your guess is as good
as mine; I can ensure you that the first building that
implemented all the preventive measures and strategies will
have the best clean school building.
