Animal Research Report

You will be writing an informational research report on your favorite
animal. This guide will help you with your research. There will be
five sections of this report:
1. Primary sources of energy (What your animal eats)- Please
describe the following: What is your animal (an herbivore, carnivore
or omnivore? What exactly does your animal eat (make a list).
2. Habitat (where your animal lives)- Please answer the following:
Where does your animal live (what region of the world)? What is the
climate of that region? What shelter does your animal use (shelter
means where does it sleep)?
3. Environmental Factors: Make a classifying map (tree map) of the
living and nonliving components that influence your animal.
4. Food Chain (A food chain shows how each living thing gets food, and
how nutrients and energy are passed from creature to creature):
Make a sequencing map (flow map) of your animals food chain.
5. Adaptations (a physical or behavioral trait that helps a plant or
animal survive in its habitat): Make a classifying map (tree map) of
the physical and behavioral adaptations your animal has made to
survive in its environment. You need a total of 6 adaptations.

When taking notes, make sure you summarize what you have read IN YOUR
OWN WORDS. To help you do this use the What is saysWhat it means
chart.

What is says

What it means

You write down exactly what the

words say on the page.

Restate what is said in your own

words!

Finally, make sure that you reference your sources, meaning that you write
down where you got your information. This is to help you avoid plagiarism
(copying).
Next, take the key points from each section (primary sources of energy,
habitat, environmental factors, food chain, and adaptations) and create a
PowerPoint. Use the PowerPoint rubric to help you create your presentation.
Finally, you are ready to present. Remember to practice and memorize your
key points. You need to face your audience and with a clear and loud voice,
and explain your presentation.
Good Luck!
Mr. Graniel
