Advantages of English Only Education:

Cheaper and easier for a school to both maintain and use. Its the old fashion way
and what many faculty members from the older generation are used to in terms of
education. It would be expensive to educate and hire teachers who have more indepth qualifications. It would also be expensive to purchase materials that would
enable bilingual education such as alternate textbooks and listening devices.
Allows ESL students to learn English more quickly because of the total
immersion factor. It becomes a sink or swim race for the student and may
motivate them to learn the language.
Observing students will learn faster from their teachers by looking at their
speaking styles and body language during lessons.

Disadvantages of English Only Education:

Reinforces the notion that those that dont speak English need to get out of the
country. It may subliminally reinforce xenophobia in both youth and adults.
Students often fall behind in thematic units while they are developing the
language proficiency to learn academics in their second language.
Students who dont understand the English language may have problems with the
subjects exams and exercises in classes.

Advantages of Bilingual Education:

Proficiency in a second language and intercultural competency skills can open

up employment possibilities in the future and lead to a globalized world.
There's a well-established positive relationship between basic thinking skills
and being a fully proficient bilingual who maintains regular use of both
languages. Fully proficient bilinguals outperform monolinguals in the areas of
divergent thinking, pattern recognition, and problem solving.
Students become more sympathetic, well rounded, and understanding of the
global world. Bilingual education makes students more aware and helps
eliminate xenophobia and cultural bias.

Disadvantages of Bilingual Education:

Designing, implementing, and providing ongoing support for language

immersion education is no easy task and requires extensive time and work.
Bilingual education only works in environments where there are only a few
different languages being spoken. It would be impossible to implement at a
school were ten to twenty languages are being spoken.
In addition to professional development related to curriculum design and
pedagogical techniques, both native and non-native teachers report the need for
ongoing support for their own proficiency in the immersion language which is
yet another expense that many schools cannot afford.
