    Indigenous urea manufacturers in India are allowed to produce up to their total subsidized urea production as Neem Coated Urea (NCU) and can charge an extra 5% above the existing urea price of Rs. 5360 per metric ton. All indigenous producers must produce a minimum of 75% of their total subsidized urea as NCU for the 2015-16 year. Research shows NCU increases rice grain yields by 6.3-11.9% over normal urea and reduces urea consumption by 10-15%. NCU also significantly reduces nitrogen pollution of underground water by 10-15% since it lowers urea loss during use from 30-50% with normal urea.

    Further, it has been made mandatory for all the indigenous producers of urea to produce minimum 75% of their total

    ResearchonNCUbyIndianAgriculturalResearchInstitute,NewDelhiindicatedincreaseinthericegrainyieldby6.3%to
    11.9%overnormalurea.
    NCUreducesconsumptionofureaby1015%.Asfarasenvironmentisconcerned,normalprilledUreauseefficiencyis
    30%(Paddycrop)to50%(Wheatcrop)i.e.50%70%ureaislost/leacheddownresultinginnitratepollutioninunderground
    water. In case of NCU, this loss is significantly reduced by about 10% 15%, thereby resulting in less pollution of
    undergroundwater.Moreover,theusageofNCUisenvironmentalfriendly.
