Description of artifact and how the artifact meets the standard:
The artifact is a behavior clip chart. This clip chart helps set high expectations for social and behavioral success of all
students. The clip chart is broken down into five categories. Students begin the day on Ready to Learn. This category
includes the student acting respectful and is ready to begin the day. Then, students can clip up to Good Choices by
displaying good behavior and showing they are making good behavior decisions. Students can clip up one more to
Super Student by displaying outstanding behavior. From Read to Learn students can also clip down to Think About
It which is a warning to a student about his or her behavior. At this point several reminders will have been given by the
teacher before reaching this point. Students can clip down one more to Teacher Choice when a student is displaying
behavior that does not meet Bondurants BEST. At this stage the teacher will provide a consequence. Throughout the
day students are allowed to move up and down as many times as needed. A student always has the possibility of turning
their day around and clipping up after clipping down.
Reflection on artifact (what went right, what went wrong, how to make better)
Students begin each day on Ready to Learn. The students are able to clip up when demonstrating respect and
responsibility. Students take pride when they clip up and encouraged to continue to display Bondurants BEST in the
classroom. I allow students to clip up if I see them following directions, staying on task, helping classmates, and staying
safe. Students self-worth is increased when they end the day on Good Choices or Super Student. It motivates them to
continue to reach the high expectations because they want to feel proud of themselves. When a student ends their day on
Good Choices or Super Student they receive a best ticket, and when a student ends the day on Super Student they get
to have a sticker added to their clip. When a student has 5 stickers, then they get an extra reward with the principal and
get to be in Miss. Dohmens Champion of Character Hall of Fame book.
I am going to continue to use the behavior clip chart in my classroom, but want to continue to make improvements to it.
To make it better I want to not have it be so public to all the students in the classroom. In third grade, the students need
to start learning independence and take an active role in their learning. I would like to make it less public to the class, so
the students understand they only need to worry about themselves. I would also like to make it better by allowing the
parents to know where their student ends the day. It would be very beneficial to use it to help communicate to parents
about their students behavior in the classroom.
