Film Studies Unit 26

Film Industry Process

Stages a film goes through
Making a film takes time and research and a film needs to have
hundreds of people to make it.to make a film it will cost millions. The
film will have rough ideas but then it will need to turn the rough
ideas in to a full script so it is ready for production. The producer of
the film will have to get the money for this and they could either
produce the money them selfs or they will have to persuade big
companys such as lions gate, universal and there are a lot more
companies. The produce persuades the big companies by pitching
the script to them and if they think that the script is good and can
be a good film then the will provide the funds for the development
of the script. When the film has got the funds for the script then the
writers have to produce a synopsis. When the writer had produced
the synopsis then they will show the producer and make sure that
the producer agrees with the key stages of the film. When the script
is complete then the director and the producer decide how they
want to film the film then they will employ people to help them. The
best way to make the film more advertised is to hire a well known
actor or actress and the public will want to watch the film if there is
a big star in the film. Film making does cost a lot of money so the
producer has to make sure that he has got enough funds to run the
film. When all of the money is secured then they will hire cast and
crew for the film. When all of the head of the departments are hired
then pre-production begins. Most of the time post production starts
during the shoot. When the film is still in play the producer needs to
sell it to the public but he doesnt sell it himself ye will have people
to sell it for him and they are known as a distributor. Once the film is
finished and has all of the finishing touches they will watch the film
over and make sure that it looks as good as they wanted the film to
be. Then they will book a venue to show the film for the first time.
When the film is not in the cinema any more they will bring out
DVDs and they will also be making money from selling the DVDs.

guiding the technical crew and actors. The director has a important
role in picking the cast members.
What does a Producer do?
A producer has got the whole control on every feature of a film
production. A producer brings together and agrees with the whole
production team. A producers key responsibility is to create a
setting where the actors and actresses of the cast and crew can
stand out. Producers are responsible for the success of the finished

How does a film get funded?

A film can get funded by a big film company. They do this by the
producer of the film has to go to the company and has to present
the film to the company. The producer has to persuade the company
to fund them. If the company thinks that the film is going to be good
witch will also make them money then they will help the film out
and fund them the money to run the film. If the film company does
not believe that the film is going to big then they will not fund the
film because they will not make any money out of the film so they
will just be wasting money on a film. But there is another way of
getting the money to fund the film. The producer could fund the film
b using their own money so they wont have to ask a big company
for the money because he will be using his money.

How are films marketed and sold?

After spending millions on making a film the studio spends millions
more on letting the audiences know about the film. Marketing a big
product like a movie can be a very expensive mainly when that the
product has a limited shelf life. Movies have to be a success on their
opening weekend and often on their opening day if not then they
tend to go very fast and the studio stands to make a loss on their
shares. The films bring out a poster before the film is out so the
audience will be looking forward to watching it. The film also puts
out trailer this is good because it will show the audience a little bit
of what they are going to see.
